I'm always trying to come up with ways to ease the newbie into Magic Realm. What do you all think of taking a cue from Settlers of Catan and designing a preconfigured map for beginners? As in SoC, a newbie will be clueless about map setup strategy, which could make his first game pretty rough. A nice, friendly map would trim down on the game's difficulty, not to mention its setup time.

Has anyone done this? If not I think we could come up with something without much difficulty. I'm thinking the map should be compact and square-ish in shape, with Valleys towards the center and difficult tiles placed out of the way as much as possible.

Suggestions? Comments?

A sample beginner's map couldn't hurt, but guidelines about how to build a map might prove more useful in the long run.
