I'm curious about whether there are any team vs. team boardgames that fit the following criteria:
1Two or more players would know they are on the same team in a given game before they decide to play the game.
2Boardgames, not cardgames.
3Each team has at least two players.

So far, all I can think of is:
Bughouse Chess (2p vs. 2p)
Memoir '44: Overlord (2p vs. 2p, 3p vs. 3p, or 4p vs. 4p)
Ingenious (2p vs. 2p)
Nexus Ops (2p vs. 2p)
War of the Ring (First Edition) (2p vs. 2p, but based on my one play, this seems like it would be better as 1p vs. 1p)

Any others come to mind? Is this already a GeekList or thread that I just couldn't find when I looked?

Thanks.

I'm my experience, team vs. team is just a two player game with responsibility for decisions divvied up. Axis and Allies is a prime example. Perhaps taking this for granted we can create new "team" games from other two player games with noticeable break in command or multi-player games with assigned teams (such as fixed alliances in Risk or Here I Stand or Splitting control of your faction in Successors)

Last Night on Earth: The Zombie Game: With six players, two playing zombies and four playing heroes.

Many of the scenarios in Wings of War: Famous Aces (and its sister box sets) involve multiple planes on both the Axis and Allied sides; give each player one plane and you're good to go!

I'll echo Last Night on Earth: The Zombie Game, and add A Touch of Evil: The Supernatural Game to the mix as well. ATOE can be played co-op, competitive, or with teams, making it quite flexible. I really enjoy this feature, as well as the game itself.

Another game that one might not think of is Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game. Although everyone (more or less) starts out on the same side, it's really the humans vs. the cylons. Of course, a large part of the game is figuring out who is on your team (and what team you're actually on).

The American Civil War: Multiple players take command of an army on either side with one player appointed General-in-Chief for both Northern and Southern armies.

Doom: The Boardgame: Marines and Invaders take sides similar to Humans and Zombies in Last Night on Earth: The Zombie Game

We play RoboRally as a team game (capture the flag) which greatly improves an already excellent game. And it is not just a 2 player game divided up, as teammates can actually shoot each other.

Napoleon's Triumph. Team play rules support 2 to 4 players per side.

In the NT team game, each side has a commander-in-chief, and the other team members have an established rank order. I've not had the good fortune to play in team mode, but the reports I've read indicate it works very well.

That's weird. This bit used to mention Shire Games, and tell you all how wonderful we are. But it seems to have got deleted. Let's see what happens this time ....

Kraków 1325 AD is 2 vs 2, although each player also has a secret goal.

Mainly a card game mechanism, but that translates to majorities on the board.

Sequence with four counts. Fun, easy, but maybe not what you're looking for.

The travel version for 2 players is broken and is not a game.
