While playing we decided that calling Shenanigans while collecting a rainbow was not in the true spirit of shenanigans, so we made an alternative rule:

You may place down a Rainbow (one of each color) at any time (face down and in a single card pile), it does not have to contain all the colors, nor does it need to actually have 7 cards. Players have until the player draws his replacement cards, at which point the player that collected the rainbow will reveal his cards.

If shenanigans was called correctly the player that called shenanigans gets to take one of that players cards (including the "rainbow"), and then the rainbow playing player discards 5 cards randomly.

If shenanigans was called incorrectly, the rainbow playing player gets to take one of the shenanigans caller's cards, and then the shenanigans caller player discards 5 cards randomly.

At the beginning of the players turn that failed the Shenanigans they will make sure they have as many cards equal to the amount of cards their opponent drew (5 if 0 or 1 rainbow, 3 if 2 rainbows).

Example:
1) Joe has 1 rainbow, and lays down another rainbow
2) Elvis calls shenanigans
3) Joe reveals that he really does have a full rainbow
4) Elvis shows his cards and Joe takes one, then draws 3 replacement cards (for the 2nd rainbow)
5) Elvis only has 7 cards, but randomly discards 5. So now he has 2 cards
6) At the beginning of Elvis' turn he will draw 1 card so that he has 3 (because Joe drew 3), then he will take his turn normally (draw 1, play card)
