We have been playing EuF2 recently limiting stacking in the MF (ie, both desert and hill terrain there) to 3 units.

I am liking the action better -- players can defend 2 hexes fairly well with their MF forces. With 4-stacking and 4-6 combat units, one frontal hex is easily demolished by the opponent.

If anybody else wants to try this and provide feedback, please do.

We found the same problem.
Frontal assaults are suicidal.
That's why we "outmanouvre" and cut supply instead of attack.
That way you see a continous "dance" of preparation to encircle and withdrawal into better positions.
The only place in which the Axis can "dig in" is south of Bengazi (swamp hex). In that case you can wait for the Americans to come and then make a frontal assault. You'll lose lots of pips, but this way you can rush from Algeria mostly unopposed.

We can try the "3-stacking" rule next time, just to see if there are any positive changes.

Thanks
Enrico

We tried this rule in several games.
After the first one, it became "natural" to use it.

The biggest difference between Axis and Allies units in the desert is that Axis has half good units and half bad ones.
But there are lots of them.
The Allies have fewer units but all of them are good.

If you limit the stack to 3, the allies player can't simply "overload" an axis hex or encircle it (as it happens always with 4-units stacks).
Bengazi becomes defendable.

So, fun-wise, this rule is approved in our gaming group (formed by 2 persons, but a group indeed).
:-)

Good luck
Enrico

P.S. Good units for axis are 4-pips italian inf, 4-pips german mech and the Daak. Bad units are the italian mech and all the statics.
Good units for the allies are 2X 4-pips inf, 2X 4-pips mech and the 4-pips armor.
Usually the axis player brings an additional alien armor to the theater. This way he can resist longer (but it's more expensive, due to maintenance).
