Ok, I guess this is a foolish endeavor, but is it possible to replace all the models from space crusade with current models from the GW range?
- The marines shouldn't be a problem, although some of the weapons have to find new counterparts.
- Orks, genestealers and Chaos Space Marines are not much of a problem.
- The necrons match the androids nicely.
- The dreadnought looks nice enough so there is no need to replace it.
- Gretchin? What about the gretchin?

Has anybody tried a thing like this and has actually succeeded? Let's hear some of your suggestions.

Edit: I guess it's not allowed to use pictures from GW's homepage to make a comparison of the old and new models in this thread?

All the model types are still in play except the zoats which if I remember correctly werent in the base game anyway.

You should be good to go on all of them including the gretchin.

Keep in mind that the minis, especially the bases, are larger now than they were then...

Gretchin are available in the current Warhammer 40,000 range [subset of the Orks, also referred to as 'Grots'].

I'm also using Terminators with the normal bases, so I can use the Terminators rules.

You might be confusing this with Advanced Space Crusade. Space Crusade had no rules for zoats, I think.

Are you sure? I don't think the size of the bases has changed. Bases for terminators and other large miniatures excluded of course.

Hey, there are even plastic gretchin available at the GW homepage... project might in fact be possible without robbing a bank...

Ok, on to the next problem. What about the marine's weapons. Bolters are easy, the rocket launcher could replace the holo launcher, the black hole blaster could be represented by the plasma gun, but what about the assault cannon?
The commander's weapons are easy: heavy bolter equals heavy bolter (altough in WH40k the sergeants are not supposed to carry a heavy bolter), bolt pistol and axe equal bolt pistol and axe, power fist and power sword equal power fist and power sword...

There are las-cannons and multi-melters for the super-heavy weapons from the dreadnought expansion, but the desintegrator and tarantula might pose a problem after all.

I'm already working on a project for this.

Some of the Marine weapons change type, but the rules stay the same
Bolters stay as Bolters
Sergeant's Heavy Bolter becomes a Storm Bolter;
Sergeant's Power Axe & Bolt Pistol becomes a Power Weapon & Bolt Pistol;
Sergeant's Power Glove & Power Sword becomes a Power Glove;
Assault Cannon becomes Heavy Bolter;
Plasma Gun stays as is;
Missile Launcher stays as-is;
Mission Dreadnought Lascannon stays as-is;
Mission Dreadnought Conversion Beamer becomes a Heavy Plasma Gun;
Mission Dreadnought Multi-Meltas stay as-is;
Tarantula becomes a Thunderfire Cannon (unfortunately metal & very expensive, plus needs re-basing).

There are plastic Gretchin available.

Dreadnought replacement needs some rules alterations given the non-specialised models. I'd actually convert a plastic Marine dreadnought, at least until they come-up with a plastic Chaos Dreadnought.

Unfortunately, I've not had time to work on this project for quite a while, but it includes double-sized board sections, so modern basing is not a problem.
