Hi! We're getting close to finalizing the Forlorn counters, and we thought it would be interesting to get your opinion on the layout for the Marine counters:

Poll: Forlorn: Hope Counter Layout
A quick poll to determine which of the two possible layouts you prefer.
Which counter layout do you prefer?
A - Arrow pointing up
B - Arrow pointing left
      37 answers
Poll created by anarchy

Thanks!

Left....I like the units with higher stats (appears to move farther and have a stronger defense.)

Ignore the actual stat values, those will be updated regardless of the actual layout used. ^_^

The arrow is used to determine the facing of the Marine. The Xenos do not need an arrow since they don't have a facing requirement when moving or attacking (they are very agile.)

I've chosen B, not for the facing arrow but for numbers organization.
I prefer all green stat on the same row and the blue stat on the opposite row,
and possibly aligned.
Unaligned numbers, in my opinion, can lead to confusion.

Thanks for asking btw.

This game in on my hottest games list!

Yeah, I have to admit I like the new "B" layout better too. At first it bugged me that "up" wasn't forward but I love the stats all in a column like that. Move/Attack/Defense format works real well. And I agree with Rollo that the special powers icons should be horizontally lined up with the Defense icon.

I've been staring at the old counters so long it was jarring at first! Doh, need to revise the cover again!

But the guys are facing left, not up.

Yes true! I've just been staring at the old ones for 6 months so had some trouble getting used to them. But now I like them much better.

'B' is my choice since the arrow and marines are facing the same direction.

Good suggestion. I've aligned the numbers and icons.

B for me, also.

This was one of the comments I made in my first report: the facing arrow pointing to different direction than the character in the image was facing is confusing.

Since you are changing the counters, anyway, maybe you could make a few of them female, like I suggested, too.

I agree.

Though why not combine the facing arrow with the "actionpoint-arrow".
Something like this:

This leaves more space for the cool counter art and it doesn't look so crowded.

That's a good point. Though the arrow does add a nice balance to the counter. But since the Xenos have no arrow and the Marines do it makes it more obvious direction matters with the arrow.

Correct. Haven't thought of that.
That makes sense.

Serg does all our counter illustrations while I do all the graphic art. The problem is with doing more unique illustrations is our Serg time is very limited so to cut down on having to make too many unique characters we made all the privates generic. If we do expansions and there are new marines in the mix then we can add some more females.

Sadly I'm not an illustrator even though I'm Chris' art monkey and will do just about anything he wants! Well, within reason of course.

The game comes with BOTH counters and cardboard standees. You get a full compliment of marines and xenos in both versions!

Huzzah!
