Hello.

Any cards can be used together. We have a format called Legacy that you can learn more about at rules.l5r.com which helps to mesh together various abilities that may have been slightly altered throughout the editions.

However for sanctioned storyline events the current arc uses Celestial Edition and all the CE-legal expansions around it. Celestial Edition came out last year, and a reprint is scheduled for early 2010.

Well, welcome to the Emerald Empire! Be sure to look for a store near you that carries L5R using our store locator: http://www.l5r.com/stores/

If one doesn't come up for your zip code, just search by state.

The editions are all based around a storyline, so the characters and events will reflect that in their flavor text and abilities. Having said that, there is little functional difference between them. Using current rules you will find some keywords and abilities that will not be used any longer (you're not missing much) as they have attempted to simplify the game and bring it back to it's basics.

The only real difference the different editions makes for play is in the tournament setting. For casual play just use whatever you have and have fun with it. It's a fantastic game that I have gotten years of enjoyment from.
