I will be moving to Hamilton area in the new year (arriving about January 20). I am keen to find a group of gamers. Please contact me if you think your group could use another member.
I play just about anything, except Risk and Monopoly (and any similar game that goes on too long for what it offers, and pretends to be social while eliminating players over the course of the game ...).
I play short games, medium-length and uber-long games, too. I have played the World in Flames grand campaign, for example, three times.
My all-time favourite games are:
Magic the Gathering
World in Flames
Axis and Allies
Diplomacy (competitively, not socially)
That said, these days I mostly get to play "euro" games, because that's the kind of folks I have to game with here in Ucluelet, BC. Recent good games are:
Race for the Galaxy
Ticket to Ride
Settlers of Catan
So, I have broad tastes and an ability to enjoy games of a huge range in complexity.
I am mostly looking for social gaming, having a laugh while we challenge one another's strategies, tactics and diplomacy.
I am 43, have a wife and almost-five-year-old son. My list of owned games and ratings can be seen through the usual channels.
Not being there yet I have no number, and can be contacted via BGG.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

There are a couple of good gaming groups in Hamilton that I'm sure you will be quick to discover through the local game stores. But let me take a moment to make my own sales pitch
My group plays out of St. Catharines (about a half hour from Hamilton) and we have a few members from Hamilton and the surrounding areas. We also get some friends from Buffalo, NY who cross the border to join us. Most of our members are in their mid to late 30's.
Most of us have very little experience with your list of 'favourites', with the exception of Magic, but maybe you would be interested in coming out to either teach us some of those (in particular Advanced Civ), or join us in some of our own favourites, which include most of the top 100 here on the Geek, but in particular:
Age Of Steam (we run our own small league - its our top game)
Other Train Games (18xx, Winsome, Wallace's other train games)
Through The Ages
Age Of Empires
We run almost weekly game nights, and throw frequent game parties to include spouses and children. We enjoy both the social interaction and competitiveness of gaming. Oh, and we also like beer - preferably high-quality micro-brew - but we won't hold it against you if you're not into it (though we will look at you a bit funny).
Myself and a couple other members have substantially large game collections, and are always picking up the latest 'great new thing'.
If you are interested in checking us out, drop me a line.
With your head held high and your scarlet lies You came down to me from the open skies It's either real or it's a dream There's nothing that is in between
Twilight, I only meant to stay awhile Twilight, I gave you time to steal my mind Away from me.
First of all, definitely take Rob up on his offer if you can make it out to St. Catherines. They are a fun group to play with!
As to Hamilton itself, please see this thread...
For info about Hammergames regularly sponsored game night. It's a good place to mee some gamers. We generally play more euroish games, but there are plenty of people that like more war/amerigamish type games as well. You probably can't make this month's, but keep an eye out for the one in January, should be the last Tuesday of that month.
Also, Bayshore Hobbies often has games nights at Chester's, see:
near the bottom of the page.
Good place to game, and the beer is great!
Finally, check out MIGS...
they are cool people who likes there wargames!
Also, just add me to your friends list and poke me when you get here; I'll try to get you hooked up with some gaming if I can.
And if you are feeling like venturing up to Toronto, please join the other Hamilton folk who come up for the TABS quarterly game days!
And then, once a year in February, there's the Niagara Boardgame Weekend which lots of the Hamilton, St. Catharines and Toronto gamers head to in February!

I am overwhelmed.
First, by the quantity and quality of the gaming opportunities, but mostly importantly by the thoughtful responses and invitations,
First to the St. Catherines group: sounds like a winner to me. I have a son who will be five soon, and a wife who likes the lighter side of gaming: Carcassone, Ticket to Ride, Settlers, Bananagrams. She would definitely be into social, mixed gaming, although it is difficult with the boy, who is attention-thirsty. Smart, funny and creative, but not interested in letting adults do adult things. However, if there are other kids around he's pretty good. I am certain we will give the family days a try. And, not doubt, I will be along to some of your weekly sessions. I do like train games, having played a few, such as 1830 and some of those crayon-based versions where you mark the map. And I would LOVE to play Through the Ages. I am pretty big on civilization-building games. I would happily teach everyone Advanced Civ if I owned it. Sadly, no: it was a friends game and to buy it on Ebay its over $200. Keen to learn new games, always keen. Age of Empires? You betcha. Never played it, but I played a lot of Napoleonics, especially Avalon Hill's War and Peace (played the GC about 10 times). As for the beer, I will definitely indulge. My preferences match yours, although the odd quality macro-brew (like Guiness) doesn't always go astray ...
For Hamilton Gamers/Hammergames: Thank you as well. I suspect I will make it to those monthly sessions, and I am excited to see that there is a quality store in town. I assumed there would be, but one can never be certain. The MIGs crew look like they play a few games I'd be intertested in, such as WiF and Advanced Civ. Thanks for that link, too. I probably won't make that last tuesday, as that will be my second night in town and, after seven weeks apart, the family will come first, and my wife and I will want to get re-acquainted (ahem).
For thr Toronto invite: Wife's family is in Toronto (part of the reason for the move) and we will be there ocassionally. Don't be surprised if my ugly mug crosses the threashold of your establishments!
I'll be in contact soon after I arrive.
Regards to all.
Life is Short; Play Games!
The BixCON Series of gaming events: A combination of Great Friends, Great Food, & Great Drink!
To any gamers in the area:
My wife and I had the pleasure of meeting Mathew, his wife, and son when we vacationed in Tofino a couple of years ago.
BC's loss is Ontario's gain. They are great folks and Kathy and I thoroughly enjoyed our time in Ucluelet with them.
Mathew: Good luck with the move!!!
PS. (Still looking for Pirates des Caraibes)
PPS. You didn't exactly pick a place with a very good CFL team. Go Riders Go.

And the CFL is ....
Actually, Hamilton soon may also have a poor hockey team (which is more than one can say for Regina).
I care for neither sport especially. More of a soccer and cricket chap. Once in Hamilton I hope to play for one of the many 35+ year-old men's teams, a nice break from chasing 20 year olds around in the rain here in Ucluelet.
Thank you terribly for the reference, and such a glowing one. I had better behave myself in Hamilton or I'll be taken your reputation down with me!
I shall have to share Pirates des caraibes with the groups in Hamilton, and they can report back wether it deserves all of my hoopla.

Hi and welcome to Hamilton,
I am a big fan of Axis and Allies and Settlers of Catan. I have been playing Axis for 30 years.....have the new AA50 version and just purchased the AA Pacific.
When you get settled in....send me an email email@example.com
I am 40...with 3 kids divorced (probably because I played too much Axis and Allies ...lol)
Thank you for the offer. I will certainly make myself available for a few games of Axis and Allies. I am playing it non-stop this coming weekend when my friend Jean-Francois returns to Ucluelet to bid me farewell.
Do you play with many variants? If so, which ones?
