Ramping up my reviewing.
Happily playing games for many, many years.
Josh, Rich and I had an entertaining game of Galaxy Trucker this weekend, using the extra components from the expansion along with the Rough Road cards and the Evil Machinations. These additions have made the game much more enjoyable in our estimation, although they've also meant that our ships aren't reaching the end with any degree of reliability.
Josh is the master of building unstable ships. Well, that's not quite true. Josh is very likely to build a ship that is incredibly small and with a lot of indestructible plating that means it won't take any damage at all. All of this means that he's in a lot of trouble when the slavers take his crew. Of the three missions, he didn't manage to complete any of them and ended up 8 credits in debt.
Rich is a far more accomplished ship builder. He has things like lots of weapons, lots of crew and cargo space on his ships, which means he can absorb some punishment and still make a profit... and the profits this game were good. After the third mission, he'd racked up over 50 credits, to be the definite winner.
For myself, I had ships that I thought were good, but tended to fall apart before the end. It didn't help that I kept being fined by machination cards. A loss of 10 credits for having the fastest ship? Urgh. That was all down to Josh's minimalistic designs.
The last run was depressing. I had a fantastic ship: lots of cargo space and everything, and picked up a lot of cargo in the early stage of the race. Unfortunately, all my cargo areas were shot off by the time I reached the end, denying me about 15 credits worth of profit! I finished still in the black, by about 20 credits, but Rich was so far in front we could do little but congratulate him and plan our new lives in the colonies.
Or, in Josh's case, plan a new life avoiding the debt collectors!
You guys have done much better than my group. We usually have 3 to 4 people in debt and MAYBE one person in the black.
The game is so much more fun with all the expansion stuff piled on. Almost my favorite game!
