Just installed Ubuntu on my laptop, in an effort to rid myself of pesky Anti-Virus issues my corporate IT folks are shoving at us every 13 minutes.

Are there any computer versions of board games that work under Ubuntu and/or Wine? Thanks!

There's a Java-based Kingsburg. Games in Java should generally work. Also, there's BSW if you're into that.

If you use wine, you can look there: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application... to see if you can run *insert win32 application name here*.

You can also try using VirtualBox to create a virtual windows machine, it's relatively easy to do and runs fine if you have a decent computer.

Java applications work fine, so does Vassal.

There should also be a bazillion abstract games available in your package manager.

Hope this helps.

Well, I wouldn't call this a computer board game exactly, but if you want to try the computer game inspired by a board game and that inspired a few board games of it's own, there's FreeCiv...

My computer version of Dreamblade runs on Linux (I do all dev and testing on Ubuntu).

I would think just about anything in Java would work. VASSAL is great on Linux.
