So, now that Axis and Allies Pacific 1940 has been released to heated debate regarding quality v price, are you still as keen to buy the European "deluxe" version when it comes out? Do you think that any aspect of the customer reaction to Pacific 1940 will have any effect upon this game?

I'll be buying the Europe game because I'm a hopeless Axis and Allies addict. But yes, the Pacific game was over-priced in my opionion. I don't think the components were low quality (all the Axis and Allies games have good components in my opinion) but I don't know why the price was hiked so much over previous A&A games as the production quality isn't any better than anything that's gone before.

I won't be buying either. I purchased the anniversary edition when it was released and am happy with it. With the botched job they did on this 1940 version I see no need to get it or the upcoming Europe, especialy at the released MSRP. If there is a debate going on between quality vs. price. I'm on the sides of poor quality and crap price.

The only customer reaction that really matters to the publisher is sales.

If all the copies sell out, don't expect much of a break on price in the Europe1940 edition.

On the other hand, if there are a substantial number of unsold copies weeks after the release, I'm sure they'll rethink the price.

Really, people are going to buy A&A Pacific 40 and not buy Europe? Come on...

Did anyone out there really pay full MSRP for this either? It's a good $55 game.... and it has a really big map.

As far as I can tell, deeply discounted prices like that are a luxury only Americans get. In the UK at least, about the best deal you'll get is around 10% off the MSRP, which still makes it close to £70.

Honestly, with the possibility of buying these online from just about whichever spot on this planet it puzzles me how people still complain about local prizes. Just bought my copy of Pacific 1940 today for €56,02 EUR (shipping and handling included therein). From Kentucky right to my very doorstep in Central Europe in notime. No running around chasing specialist retailers, no fuzz and all at a more than decent pricing, imo.

And yes, the plan is to try out Pacific 1940 and to then get Europe 1940 to complement the former.

It's about time the 51st state got voting rights an NFL team and cheap games. You guys should protest... perhaps you should send someone over to chat with Obama and just apologize for that whole, 'taxation without representation thing' and ask if you can join our party - bring Canada along to - we'll let them in as long as they bring the beer. Cheap games for all!

There's actually serious discussion taking place about a British franchise entering the NFL at some point.

I love Britain and it's quite cool that Wembley gets packed for the NFL once a year, but jeez the travel involved in this deal would be crazy and probably drive everyone involved crazy.

Wait for that teleporter tech, then maybe we'll see this.

. Absolutely....just because there is a vocal minority that don't like cut corners does not mean Aap40 is a poor game. In fact I have found the map, ruleset and combat units to be of good quality to boot. The dynamics of europe and aap40 will be exciting. I also point out that despite some of us complaining about cut corners, myself included, the game enjoys a good rating despite the very dissatisfied camp. Most who have one will fight to get the second offering...

I'm in the same camp - a little dissappointed about the cut corners, but the game play, models and rules are superior. I will definitely buy Europe.

Will fans reactions to Pacific affect the design team of Europe to up the level of "deluxe".....I'm thinking not.

I will not be buying a copy of AAP40 until (hopefully) a 2nd print with all the corrections and extra Japanese Tac Bombers has been released for a much cheaper price, here in the UK. I'm certainly not paying anywhere near £75.00 for such a poor quality product.

And I will not be buying AAE40 at all until I see the above issue rectified. Sorry, but that's how I feel. :soblue:

"I'm in the same camp - a little dissappointed about the cut corners, but the game play, models and rules are superior. I will definitely buy Europe."

I'm buying Europe 1940, but seeing what a hash they made of the rules and the initial situation set-up in Pacific 1940 likely what I'll end up with is just another kit to make up my own Axis & Allies variant for the whole war.

The TWO good things about Pacific 1940 are the beautiful map and the addition of the ANZAC power. I hope the Europe 1940 map is at least as good---it would be nice to have say a five territory wide Russian front and add Tobruk and Alexandria (and maybe Tunis) spaces to North Africa.

I already made my own variant out of the map and some pieces from this game and several other A & A games.

The variant is called:

"Islands & Empires of the Pacific 1941"

It uses a ton of new pieces and rules that I had worked up over some time for the original" "Axis & Allies Pacific".

You can order a copy of the ten-page variant from JBisio@msn.com

Yep I'll purchase.

Of course I would like to see a "collectors" box like Power Grid so a person could carry one box around rather than the two it will be in.

I'lll be in. I'm particularly interested in having a game with France '40 represented, as well as some Neutrals.

Also looking forward to seeing how much of a game-within-a-game the Med/North Africa becomes, as well as the possibilities, at this scale, of an Eastern Front/Near East link-up.

Plus . . . there's Operation Sealion to consider, and of course the Battle of the Atlantic.

I suspect I'll be playing E-40 more than P-40 as a stand-alone when all's said and done.

AAE1940 is a must buy. This version is 100% better than AA50.

Why would you want to play the "kid" version AA50 when the grand game of AA1940 exists?

Right now you could sell your copy of AA50 ($250-300 for a used copy) and buy AAP1940 and AAE1940. You would still be ahead on money.

Right !

Hopefully it will cost me around the same $ that I paid for AAP40, which was $68CDN, taxes included, of course.

And I thought that the AA 50th ed. was the sum up of all AAs. Now I think there will be an AA'39. shake

J. cool

If there is a '39, I probably won't be buying it. I think 1940 Global will be the pinnacle and any new game would have to be something really special for me to consider spending any more money on it.

(I'm getting "the look" from my wife when she sees my A&A collection - "Why do you have so many copies of the same game?".....) She just doesn't understand.

100%. I have to play the combined boards.

My major complaint about Pacific 1940 were the added complexes, airfields, and shipyards that weren't plastic 3-D components. Makes them hard to see on the board at times (under a unit or whatnot).
