I wanted to make a quick dice tower and made this in only five minutes.

All you need is a Pringle Box and 3 Pringles lids. I have used original flavour but i would imagine other flavours would be suitable (this maybe the topic of a future geeklist!).

Simply make three slots at approx 45 degrees down the side of the box. For the top two baffles use half a Pringles lid. For the bottom baffle which will deflect the dice into the tray use a whole lid. However you need to cut the rim off half of the lid (see diagram).

These then slot into place in the slots you have cut.

You then need to cut an exit hole at the base. This need to be about half the diameter of the box to ensure the dice do not get stuck. I started with a small hole and adjusted it till dice where no longer stuck.
The cut can weaken the whole structure so support in the form of tape at the nase may be required.

The last lid is cut in half and placed on top of the box to ensure the dice are dropped in the correct place.

I hope this of use to people. The Pringle Tin is perfect for decoration and I am sure can be design to suit any theme required.
I do have say the dice make a great noise as they topple through the tower.

Have fun

I was tried to do the same with the rolls of toilet paper but lost interest a minute later. Nice idea. (But bad choice of chips!)

Wipe down the insides of the tower and let it dry to get any last bits of oil off the sides, thus keeping your dice clean.

Also, choose a colour of pringles that will take fewer coats of paint to cover, such as the grey or silver. I was looking for pringle can images to get the flavour name for the silver. but i'm having no luck.

However, these images:

show that you can trivially paper over the outside in order to paint whatever colours you want onto your can.

Once you do that, you might consider entering it into Pringles Art Contest:

The things you find while googling for images!

Nice idea to recycle those tubes. Only problem is the ratio 3:1 of covers to tubes.

I agree. However you can just slot thick card in the side of the tube. Another way is to stick pencils through the tube at different heights and angles to scatter the dice. You can then just use the tube top for the ramp at the bottom.

I am in the process of making a dice tower using balsa wood. It is easy to cut it with an x-acto knife but strong enough if you use 8mm thick balsa.

I apply a sheet of cork inside the walls to reduce the dice rattling.

The whole construction is made using balsa wood, pins, cork sheets and atlacol (wood glue).

When i am done i'll paint it and apply two coats of wood varnish.

I just wanted to add that the Lay's equivalent of Pringles, called Stax, come in bright plastic tubes which you can peel the label off of easily, and don't have to paint. Plus, they are cheaper than Pringles!

You're buying a 1.00 dice tower. You don't have to eat the chips.

Great Idea!

Don't have enough lids?

Use anything that will fit in the slot you can trim; like cardboard.

This idea should also work with mailing tubes or PVC pipe.

I finally got enough lids from my brother, so here is my interpretation of your Five Minute Dice Tower:

I was able to fit one more lid into the dice tower, so now there are 4 scrambling lids.

I didn't cut the top lid in half but cut out a semi circle leaving the edge intact. This way, the entry lid can still be used like a lid.

Yesterday there was a "buy 1 get 1" promotion for Pringles, so I bought 4 Pringles with the price of 2. That's good !

And tonight I have my first hand made Dice Tower cool . I'm sure my children will have a good time with this. kiss

Thanks ! (and a for you!)

This is an awesome idea! I made one today. I went one step further and used a lid from a large Blue Diamond Almonds container as the dice tray.

Thanks for this! I made one for myself, painted it, and built a tray out of Jenga blocks and added some wood stain and black felt.

Thanks for the great idea. I didn't have extra lids so I cut up an old xbox game case, added some paint and some stickers.
