The rules state that in order to extend a siege past one round a elite unit must be reduced to a regular unit. Does this mean that a besieging army consisting of regulars only can besege only one turn? Can a army consisting of regulars only discard one rugular unit per turn to continue the existing siege? Thanks ahead of time for your help with this question

Only by reducing elites to regulars can you extend battle to another round. If you run out of elites, you cannot extend it anymore.

And yes, an army composed entirely of regular units battles only for one round during siege.

Unless of course they are using one of the 3 rounds of combat event cards.

Or in case of an attacking SP with more siege engines (from expansion) then the FP, he can extend the siege battle by 1 round for free.
