I would like to know where in this wide world you can find such a thing as a café or a bar dedicated to board games. These criterias must be apparent:

1. The employees are friendly towards gamers.
2. A substantial collection of games is available to guests.
3. Some sort of meal and drink service is provided.

Please write down city and country in capital letters, name of the location, and then add additional information such as direction (add possible landmarks to improve pathfinding), maybe a link of some sort, and desirable a couple of words about their food and drink service, the ambience and possible "date factor". Lastly don't forget to mention some of the games in their collection (maybe your favourites?).

Here's my example:

Quote:
BERGEN, NORWAY: "Aspendos"

Neumanns gate 7 (next to the new cinema)

Serves pizza and simple italian dishes at a reasonable price. Beer and wine. The game collection is hidden in shelves above the counter, but it's possible to check out the games if you ask. Fairly large tables that can handle most games. Relaxed athmosphere with mixed clientele of gamers and moviegoers, but don't expect to find gamers at any time to play with.

GAMES: Axis & Allies, Settlers Of Catan.

It would be great if we together could create a guidebook for gamers on holiday!meeple

Amazing place. It has monitors that teach the games if you need a rules explanation. Here you can see some of the games they have. We go there every Wednesday night and on the second Sunday of the month to play. Great food, beers, and drinks.

GULU-GULU CAFE SALEM, MASS. U.S.A.

Website http://www.gulu-gulu.com/index.asp

European food, weird indie music, and a shelf full of boardgames available to all. I can't remember specifically what they had but I remember it was more than just Monopoly and Scrabble. There must have been more than a dozen games.

Café VorSpiel, Frankfurt, Germany

A very nice place, a big selection of games and it's not too expensive either. The food is very good too!
Members of the BGG-guild Frankfurt&Rhein/Main are meeting there every thursday night. New gamers are always welcome and don't be shy if you don't speak german - most of us speak english.
Also, Michael Schacht of Zooloretto fame, has an open gaming group there (normaly on the second friday of each month).

Update November 2010: Cafe Vorspiel has closed it's doors.

Cafe, Ludothek, shop and renting agency. They have more than 1100 games to choose from! You can play the games there or take them home with your for a little fee or even buy some of them (new and used). And they host gaming events on a regular basis.

I even made a picture of the place on my last trip to Berlin:

Singapore

All of the cafes listed below are dedicated boardgame cafes with decent game range (usually most of the BGG top 50 + popular party games). Food wise, the shops serve a mixture of main courses (pastas, chicken cutlets, etc) and finger foods. Most do not serve alcoholic beverages. All the cafes have game + fd packages or just pure game time packages.

Check out their websites for more details.

1. Settler's Cafe - 2 locations, both in city centre.

2. Mind Cafe - 5 outlets across the island

3. De Coder's Cafe - in the western part of the island, close to a train station.

4. Pitstop Cafe - right in the heart of the CBD

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA: "Mage Cafe"

http://www.themagecafe.com/

The owners Tracy and Ryan are avid boardgamers, they welcome all boardgamers to play at their cafe and they have a wide variety of boardgames from casual to heavies like Caylus and Puerto Rico.

The food served is their bread and butter and it's good, attracting office workers during lunch hours to sustain their business. Night time and weekends is when gamers come to roost and the nearby college provide new gamers playing all the time.

Re: Board Game Cafés & Bars
How about I make a Google Map with all the addresses ?
I'll post the url later today…

EDIT : Here it is. I added all the places submitted here so far (except for the CarcaSean Cafe - no way to find the exact address).
Just ask me if you want me to add you as an aditor so you can add/edit infos on the map. At first I thought I'd allow anyone to edit it, but I'm slightly concerned about losing all the info (due to either human error or malevolent act). Anyway, if several of you think it's safe, I can open the modifications to everyone.

Hope you'll like it!

FRANCE, 40 min. from RENNES

L'Auberge des VoyaJoueurs
10-room inn in a great setting.
400+ games, from traditional world games to Wii.
Gaming afternoon and nights.
Website: www.auberge-des-voyajoueurs.com (french/english)

I almost forgot about this one; I never went there but I was told it was really awesome. I love the idea and just take a look at the pictures on their website: it looks amazing. I don"t think they have a lot of recent euro-games yet, but they just hired 2 people to manage their game collection and events.

Place for Us in Chicago on west 63rd street just west of Central avenue (south side of the street). It's right near Midway airport. Nice selection, good tables, friendly staff, good food and drinks, Wednesday's dedicated to it but anytime's fine.

Re: Board Game Cafés & Bars
Your efforts are highly appreciated Matthieu in making this thread inspiring and highly francophile!thumbsup

It was actually in Lyon during the Fete de Lumiere in 2008 that I had my first encounter with a true board game café, when I accidentally passed the "Moi j'm'en fous je triche" (I didn't pick up the name then) on the way to see one of the light installations. The glimpse of this awesome place would burn into my mind and this is what inspired me to start up this thread (hoping someone sooner or later would mention it along with a lot of other good stuff). I'll probably be back in France again this year, so hopefully I'll have great use of your additions.meeple
