Having mused on the theory that it should be possible to build a 15 room stone house for some time, I decided to try and ascertain if it was possible.

The permutations are too high in a multiplayer game so I thought I would try a solo game, where I could select any 7 occupations and minors from any of the 3 main decks.

n.b. MFW = 2 wood card introduced by the master forester

Round 1 Sheep
Occ/Patron
DL(2f)

Round 2 Sow/bake
Occ/Master Forester (+1f -patron)

Round 3 MIMI
Occ/Thatcher (+1f -patron)

Round 4 Fences

Had to look up that card - forgot there was a card like this.

Add in the fellow who lets you keep animals indoors, and you don't need to pass on the animal points.

I think that the animal tamer is for 3+ players, not for 1+ (solo).

Animal Tamer is for 1+.
But on the other hand he used Master Forester which is only for 4+ normally.

The Chief would normally cost 2 more food as well.

Damn, forgot about that, wasn't thinking about a solo game initially, just gravitated to it as it seemed simpler than factoring all the options in for a multiplayer game

I had factored that in but could have converted 2 more wood to food via the joinery without loosing VP's

He used all 7 occupations, so he would have to lose one of the others to be able to play Animal Tamer. If you dropped the Yeoman Farmer for the Animal Tamer that would be -4 for fields, pastures, grain and veg.

Optimal animal picks:
5 boar R12, breeding in R13 and R14 for 7 total = 4 Points
3 Cattle R13, breeding in R13 and R14 for 5 total, eat 1 for 4f, 4 = 3 Points
2 Sheep R9 breeding 4 times for 6 total, eat 2 for 4f, 4 = 2 Points
3 actions for 9-4 points = 5/3 = 1.67 P/A
3 actions for 8f= 2.67 f/A

I'd say that's not very good. In addition, there would be points and opportunities lost by not using those 3 actions for something else. This could maybe be offset by the extra 8 food, but then this would have been a very different session.

My tweak would be to use the Horse for an extra 6 bonus points. I don't remember if it also has card points. The Swan Lake looks like it's only worth 2 total, so that might be a candidate for swapping.

The Clay Pit gives you 3 Clay for Day Labourer, but where do the 3 Stone come from?

As has already been pointed out, using the Master Forester is cheating: he is not a solo occ, and for obvious reasons. So there's a potential occupation slot right there (don't ask me how he'll get the wood now though).

How you would manage to flog 6 points out of one Horse I have no idea.

Kasper:
I missed that one.

Mike T:
Horse (K-135)
"You receive 2 bonus points for each type of animal missing from your farmyard at the end of the game.(The horse replaces that type of animal.)(You still lose the point for the missing animal type.)"
No animals equals 3x2=6 points
The Yeoman Farmer removes the 3 minuses.
The Horse itself is 1 Point, that actually makes a total of 7.

The Master Forester problem I can't see a way around, except changing the entire play. I'll leave that to the OP.

I'm quite sure the wording is different on the dutch version of the horse card, so that you get it for maximum 1 type of animal, giving only 2 pts. Would be quite overpowered if it compensated for all missing animals.

My bad. And to think I was reading the text while typing...blush

You are completely right, the Horse would only be 2+1 points. Still, 1 point better than Swan Lake.

My version of the Horse provides only the 2 bonus points. It is not itself 1 point. Generally speaking it's a pretty nice card for multiplayer games, where having a free improvement has a lot of value, but not that strong for solo maxing.
