HI all!

I have been looking at getting into GO I have gone through http://playgo.to/iwtg/en/ and thoroughly enjoyed myself. But now I need to move onward and or upward.

Just wondering where do you get your GO stuff at?

I went to several Board Game Stores on line (boards and bits, coolstuff, and I think boulder) and I really could not find anything,

So I was just wondering who you use and trust, or where you go?

Thanks in advance for your replies!

Pepper,
I haven't played GO in 20 years, but it's a great game.
I don't know of any on-line retailers selling it, but there is a hobby store in Cincinnati called "Boardwalk" that used to have some copies. If they don't have any, they'll be able to get them.

In college, my roommate and I made a board on poster board and spray painted pennies for stones.

The best games I ever played.

I'd suggest Samarkand, but they don't sell retail anymore. What exactly are you looking for? I've ordered books from these two before:

If you're looking for links and starting point, take a look at my game comment for Go.

I've been really happy with my John Hansen Go set, available from Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Go-Game-with-Wood-Board/dp/B00000IZPL?...

I think it's a perfect set for someone just getting into Go. It's good enough quality that you get the tactile pleasure of Go, but yet it's very affordable.

Good call. For example, here is a recent thread that might get you started on your mission to find a goban.

I got mine in Japan! Of course, factoring in the air travel and other expenses that means my cheap set with anime guys on it came out to about $3,030. It helped that I was going there anyway...

I've shopped on a number of different resources, but tend to prefer Yellow Mountain Imports http://www.ymimports.com/ which has a great selection of interesting Go books, plus I've gotten some absolutely gorgeous stones and bowls, and they're great people to work with, good communication! They have some other neat stuff besides Go, too.

As far as equipment goes I can't really comment - that's all cheap and easy to find over here. I will say that they are excellent when it comes to getting English language go books though! I ordered a couple recently and they arrived (in Japan!) in exactly one week!

I would recommend them without hesitation.

For my birthday, my friend found a nice piece of wood, got a ruler, and just drew a board with a sharpie for me. Pretty easy. Then she got some large, flat glass beads at the store and they serve as the stones.

If any of you guys are still monitoring this thread.

Well I went and used Yellow Mountain as per you guys recommendation, they packed it good, they shipped it fast, and it got here perfect. and that is a really nifty website.

Thanks again for steering me there

And Marc you need to keep her around if she is willing to make games for you

I wish I got a board, I picked up another learning tool instead.

Bruce Wilcox's Go Dojo Contact Fights

It is something like 1400 pages on a CD, I know that a lot of writing does not a good publication make (any wheel of time fans out there?) but the description looked good, and it seems to me that YMI is not carrying the worthless junk that I have been seeing and the confusing madrid of products that lead to the original post.

YMI link here

I think I may go with a homemade board for a little while as I learn.

I've never looked at that one, but when you're starting I'd recommend Janice Kim's Learn to Play Go series. You can probably skip the first volume of that though.

Essential Life and Death 1 -
http://www.ymimports.com/p-817-essential-life-death-1.aspx
Is a great purchase at an early level too.

As you get a little bit stronger James Davies 'Tesuji' will really help improve your game.

And it even includes a (admittedly paper) GO set inside the book!

For me (in the Netherlands) it is easy:

at the specialised store

Schaak en Gowinkel het Paard

For you maybe this link is more useful:

Now that's a nice link. I spent an hour in there, and plan to go back real soon. Thanks.
