Like many, I've been disappointed in the paltry selection of games offered in the recent Barnes and Noble sale (as discussed here: Barnes & Noble Holiday Sale - Now 75% off ). BUT when I checked out today with a few $2 items off the sale table, the clerk mentioned that I might want to check back in February because they would be putting a lot of their games on sale then!

Woohoo! It looks as if they may be having their great annual game sale after all! The one I visited had a pretty decent selection of games, though other ones around here don't have much.

As it was such an incredible deal, I must continue to gloat about my pick up at B&N 3 years ago.

I got Doom for $1.

That year at B&N I got War of the Ring for $15 and Twilight Imperium 3 for $20. And a couple of smaller things for $1 (Munchkin junk). That was an amazing clearance sale.

You're getting old and losing track of time. That was 4 years ago now.

2007's big name games were Rheinlander, Niagara, and RoboRally
2008's were Arkadia, Liar's Dice, and Slide 5
2009's were Age of Empires III, Modern Art, and Rumis

The big FF games haven't been part of the sale for a long time (since before I joined BGG).

When I went this past weekend to look at the 75% off sale, I thought that it couldn't have been the annual boardgame sale that begins in early February. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and eyes open for some good deals in the next few weeks.

Yep, I was quite pleased with my $10 copy of Arkadia.

$1 for Doom four years ago sounds impressive, but you forgot to factor in inflation.

I would've bought AoE III for $1, but not surprisingly, it didn't make it there. Best was the 50% or 75% off sale, which was still too much for me since others already have it.

Yep, I lucked out and was able to grab Age of Empires III for $1 last year. This year it looks like I'll have to be content with Talisman for $15.

And don't forget Beatles Monopoly.

Last time I was there, a lady and her daughter were there. The woman spied it on the table and picked it up and said "Doesn't this look great?"

The daughter said, "Mom, you hate Monopoly."

Mom said "Yeah, but this is BEATLES Monopoly!"

The daughter just rolled her eyes.

If you check the threads from last year, the annual boardgame sale started in early January, the same time as the normal clearance sale. BN did not put any new games on sale in Feb. If they do that this year, it will be completely different than what they have done in the past couple of years.

I would add Acquire to 2009. I picked up a number for $1.

Ours used to (Arkadia, AoE III, etc.). Maybe it was just a one-year fluke.

I have gone crazy the last couple of years with the sale:

2008:
3 copies of Slide 5 for $1

2009:
1 copy of AoE III for 75% off and 1 for $1
2 Copies of Acquire for $1
4 Copies of Diplomacy for $1
3 Copies of Road to the White House for $1
1 Copy of Onyx Monopoly for $1
2 Copies of Rumis for $1
1 Copy of Modern Art at 75% off and 2 for $1
1 Copy of GiftTrap for $1
Various Trash I should not have picked up

2010:
1 Copy of Tiki Topple at 50% and 1 at 75%
1 Wind Up Sumo for 75%
1 Wind Up Bowling for 75%
1 Copy of Heist at 75%
2 Ingenius at Borders for 75%

I feel like at a dollar I might grab a few things, but not with the passion I have had in the past few years.

I can tell you it's hit or miss with the one here in the South Bend area. One month it's family games and stuff you wouldn't impulse buy on your most bored day.

The next month it's a game paradise that rivals most gaming stores.

Go figure.

I'd find a new FLGS. The ones you frequent sound awful.

I must be getting old... my memory is that the board games didn't show up until the 1st Monday in Febuary... at 50%, and usually stayed at that for 2-3 weeks before they got marked down more a week at the time until whatever was left became "dumpster juice" (that's what the bgg geek who also worked at b&n said they called it)

edit: and I just found such a thread from a year past.. Jan. 4th, 30%... guess it doesn't really gain much attention until it drops to 50% in any case here's hoping the b&n cashier that the base poster got the tip from is right and it's different this year

edit 2: found the 2007 thread started by a B&N manager... that year (2007) it did indeed start on 1st mon in feb at 50%, see http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/146508/barnes-noble-boar...
