I just got this game and when I saw the Mace of Chaos I thought "hey that's cool".

Now that I think about it, it can be used as a substitute for most types of dice.

It can be a: D2, D3, D4, D6, D8, D12 & D24

If only it had 5 balls instead of 4 then it have been a D5, D10 & D20 too.

It's basically a big D24. You can divide up the outcomes to make others. Some are straightforward, some may require a lookup-table.

egs
D2 red ball falls in top or bottom half or check if red is above blue or not.
D4 the red ball can be in 4 positions.
D3 pretend the blue one does not exist, then the red can be in 3 possible positions.

D6 combine D3 with D2 (ignore blue, note red pos, check if yellow is up or down in remaining 2 positions)

D8 combine D4 with D2
D12 combine D4 with D3 (ie don't ignore blue)
D24 combine D2, D3 and D4.
