It is my pleasure to introduce the 125th Wolf of the Week: sydwys8!

You may remember his performance in the We Want YOU to Fight (For) the Resistance! game where he won a solo victory as a "Live to the final 3" in a 20 player game (in only his fourth game on these forums!) Or perhaps you remember him from the Godslayer game where he singlehandedly crippled the Evil team on Night 1 due to equal parts skill and luck.

Regardless of how you know him, I'm sure everyone will agree that he is well deserving of this honorable title!

sydwys8 wrote:
I am honored to be this weeks Wolf of the Week.

I was born in Georgia to a large family of 6 sisters and 1 brother. We all tried to find our own little niche because individuality is difficult to express among the fray. My eldest sister loved comic books and unwittingly introduced me to Magic: The Gathering when she tried to introduce me to comic books (her comic book store sold the cards).

It wasn't until I reached college that I got into board games. A now ex-boyfriend invited me to a board game group at the gaming store where I bought Shadowfist and Legend of the 5 Rings, and I continued to go even after he abandoned the group. Soon I gained a reputation for being board game snoot after watching people make weird and often ill-advised decision and making equally weird, contorted faces in response. StatSig suggested I print out a LOLcat saying "You're Doing it Wrong" and that idea caught on a little too well in the group. I never actually told anyone that they were doing it wrong, at least not with words.

StatSig introduced me to online werewolf and I'm happy he did. I was a wolf the first 2 games I played on here and started out trying to go under the radar to stay alive. I guess old habits die hard because in the interest of consistancy I continue to not talk all that much, even when I'm not a wolf. I like werewolf because I get the chance to make weird and often ill-advised decisions and sometimes have them pay off (apparently cutting 2 player's HP in half just because I can is a bad idea from a villager's stand point...).

Two truths and a lie:
I once went to Las Vegas for a card game tournament on a whim.
I am related to Carmen Electra.
I am a direct decendant of Sir Francis Bacon.

But listen again. Is it really the wind, or is it the sound of somebody running one step ahead of the dark?

Congratulations!

I think number one is the lie.

How do you pronounce your username: sidewise8, sideways8 or infinity?

What is your favorite microbadge?

What do you love about Georgia?

Is there anything you don't like about Georgia?

Okay, that's all the questions I have for now. Enjoy your week!

sideways8, though the forum title has spelled it wrong...

I really like the the Order of the Stick microbadge I have, though the Wolf of the Week one is pretty.

I guess I didn't put it in my bio, but I just recently moved from Georgia to DC in order to find a decent job. I was so used to the weather down there, I think that's what I miss the most. That and the fact that I lived so close to most of my family.

bluelise wrote:

The political and social climate. I was tired of getting cat-calls for walking down the street with a boy.

Umm... so many choices... whatever I choose I'm just gonna regret in a few days (perhaps hours), but I'll go with Anse Bundren from Faulkner's As I Lay Dying

Dekal wrote:

I spend a lot of time organizing cards and building decks for Legend of the Five Rings, now that I don't live near anyone who plays Shadowfist. I also tend to frequent a sport's bar because I'm secretly sometimes interested in what's going on in the sport's world.

Dekal wrote:

I have never understood the draw of women's undergarments; I spent much of my childhood rooting through bras and panties to get clothes for school. I know how a woman should be treated, though that's funny because it hasn't really helped in my personal life.

Congrats! Glad my blabbering about the forums got you to join!

So, we covered Georgia. Let's talk DC (and no use being coy, we all know you moved here for Valkerie's game parties): What's your favorite thing about DC so far?
What's one board/card game you've yet to play but really want to?
Favorite movie(s)? Book(s)? Video game(s)?
Uh... I'm sure I could have more questions but I think some snow got into my brain, so I'm out for now.

Remember, remember the fifth of November,

Should ever be forgot.

From Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

A classic. I had to delay a plane to be introduced to that one. Well worth the admission.

You know, I used to have that. In shrink wrap. But someone wanted it more then I did so I gave it to them. Since it was still in shrink wrap.

If you could take any invention from this time and have it be invented earlier, what would the invention be, and when would you have it be invented?

How do you eat an oreo cookie?

Why did you become a vegetarian?

Strangest fact you can remember.

Describe a funny thing that happened to you.

What kind of car would you drive if price were no object?

Cell phone. If it had been invented in the 20s, we'd have proof of whether they're harmful to our health.

Valkerie32 wrote:

I eat the frosting on the inside then eat the cookies without frosting.

Valkerie32 wrote:

I've always had a problem with the process by which animals come from a farm to the market. It wasn't until I was living on my own that I could put that opinion into action in my everyday life.

Just random fact? A pig can hold an orgasm for 30 minutes.

When I was in high school, two different girls on two different occasions forced me out of the closet by hitting on me incessantly.

Oh, and congratulations sydwys8! I don't believe I've had the pleasure of playing with you; I'll have to look that up later.

I don't have any sisters (just one brother 2.5 years younger), but I can sort of imagine your situation. My mother has six (or is it seven? blush ) brothers and no sisters. I have a lot of uncles and no blood-relative aunts. Looking back, I would have liked to have a sister.

Anyway, questions:

Have you ever played Bridge?

If not, do you want to? If so, what bidding systems do you use?

What's your favorite roguelike?

You've been zapped with a wand of polymorph, and you're wearing a ring of polymorph control. What do you turn into?

Death, Chaos, Nature, Trump, Sorcery, Life, Arcane. Which school of magic do you choose? If you're a Mage, choose 2.

You're a villager, but you get a feat. Choose one (secretly): Tough from wolfkill, tough from lynch, extra half-vote (added to normal vote), half-seer, brutal, Specialist kill (one shot night kill), power nullification, 1-1 parity defying, martyr. Why did you choose this?

How often do you (in RL) vote for a candidate whose party affiliation differs from your own? (Feel free to not answer this question if you wish)

Which game do you hate more, Carcassonne, or Ticket to Hell?

What is it about a game that makes it more likely for you to sign up for it? Less likely?

What are some of your favorite Werewolf quotes? (from yourself or others)

Whose questions do you find most interesting?

I thought we'd played a game togetherm though I could be wrong.

Nope

Urza47 wrote:

I generally try to be good at the games I play, and I think getting good at bridge might be a bit of a time commitment. That being said, I would liek to try at some point.

Urza47 wrote:

Never played a roguelike.

Urza47 wrote:

Last time that happened I turned into a mix between a Gnome and a Tree-ent. I think that'd be pretty cool.

Urza47 wrote:

I'm not a Mage, but I've played one on WoW. Arcane and Chaos would be my choices.

Specialist kill because most of the coices are pretty common, I don't want my vote to be worth more (I'm more of a night action kind of guy) and getting your power nullified sucks.

Never have.

Urza47 wrote:

I think I can tell how you would answer this question... Not a Carcassonne fan. Never have been.

Urza47 wrote:

A mix of complexity and understandability. I like simple games fine but prefer more complex games. I am much less likely to sign up for a game that I'm supposed to know what's going on and I don't.

Urza47 wrote:

At the end of the Godslayer game:
"Be careful not to give a weapon and a double use power to Syd. He's dangerous when given toys."
~Javal

I'm going to assume you mean "Which type of question do you find interesting, of the ones which are being asked this week?" If that is not what you mean, please be more specific. The questions about my life outside of BGG are the most interesting to me.
