Starting a bi-monthly lunchtime gaming session. 1.5 hours or so.

It will mainly be with casual-non-gamers.

Thinking of stuff like We Didn't Play Test This, Roll Through the Ages, Infinite City, to maybe something like Dominion.

Any other suggestions?

Something short, easy to teach, fun to play?

Thanks.

How about Pandemic?

Found it to be a great game to play with casual gamers as the team work aspect allows you to help them along and have them share in the win!

Settlers would probably be good.

Can Pandemic really be played in an hour? I bet people here would like it, as we work with some biotech scientists and chemists.

I believe that the time on the box says 45 minutes. However 4 player games normally last for 30-45 minutes with us. It was the first co-op game we tried and it has been a huge hit ! :)

We've be gaming once or twice a week now for about 4 months during our lunch break. We have anywhere from 3-7 guys depending on who is at work that day or how bad schedules are at that time. The games we've been playing are:

Dominion - All 3 and the promo cards
Pandemic - Pandemic: On the Brink
TransAmerica - Very good first game, fast and easy to learn
RoboRally - We're computer geeks so this fits in nicely, I wouldn't suggest this for more than 4 and only use 2 flags.
BANG! The Bullet! - This works out great! Some days you just need to shoot somthing or someone and some days it's the guy a couple cubes over because he left something out of he specs devil
Castle Panic - Another coop, can't go wrong with these for beginning gamers

All depends on how many epidemic card you use. If you play the beginner game with 4 cards then a game should go quickly. As you add more epi's the game gets longer. Also, with the Pandemic: On the Brink expansion you can play the Bio-Terrorist, Viral Strain and Mutation options. Plenty of options with this game. It is definately a favorite in our group.

45 minutes sounds about right if you win the game. First game will take some time longer to let the players get acclimated to the game.

Settlers or Pandemic are both great choices. Not Pandemic if you have a control freak within the group.

2-flag Robo Rally would probably be a lot of fun as well.

I'll keep this in mind for later down the road, once the players become more gaming literate.

Sometimes I'll take "Shut the Box" to work to play during a break. Its simple, fast and you can make it quite short playing time. Its more of a bar, drinking type game, but works for me!

Never heard of Shut the Box...I'll check it out.

Does anyone know of a less nerdy version of Colossal Arena? I love that game, but I don't know if the monster-theme will go over very well.

I second the earlier vote for TransAmerica -- it's a quick game and it takes about a minute to explain the rules.

Other quick, easily-jumped into games I would recommend for new lunchtime gamers:

Coloretto

Tsuro

San Juan

No Thanks!

None of these are particularly deep games, but it doesn't take too long to explain the rules (okay, maybe a bit longer for San Juan) and it's easy for people to jump in and play. I'd be wary of anything that takes so long to explain that there's not much time left to play.

+1 Tsuro, Pandemic and Catan.

I'll add Citadels to the list.

Unnamed Object is great. Quick play, very easy to pick up and teach. The bonus is it scales pretty well from 3-8 players. I think it's a bit more fun with 4 or more though.

I've been playing Quarto which has lead to Blokus. I'm thinking of trying Abalone for two players and Carcassonne for multiples as well as Citadels. Unnamed Object sounds like a good idea too. My lunch is an hour so by the time people show up and sort out their food, it gives about 45 minutes of game time.

You've got more time so you might get away with 3-4 player basic Settlers of Catan. I guess it depends on your group of players what type of games you choose.

Try Fluxx and Guillotine. Both are quick games with a very short learning curve.

Gang of Four and Five Crowns are easy to teach card games with a modest amount of deeper strategy.

It's on my list along with 30 something other games I'd like to play/purchase. If I only had an endless supply of $ and enough time to play them all whistle

I was thinking about Cash 'n Guns, but I don't know how well that would go over in our office. HR may have a problem with it.
