I love to have some music quietly playing while we're gaming, and when I hear about a new game one of the first things I think about is what soundtrack would fit the theme. Being a Zune Pass subscriber helps a lot because I have access to a massive catalog of somewhat obscure recordings.

My first thought was the soundtrack to Murder on the Orient Express (http://www.amazon.com/Murder-Orient-Express-Richard-Bennett/...), which was recently reissued. Listening to a little of it, though, it sounded too "old movie" to me.

My next thought was the soundtrack to the Horror on the Orient Express Cthulhu campaign by Alex Otterlei (http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/alexotterlei). It sounds good, but it's kind of pricey and not available on Zune Pass. Plus it might be a little too pulp/horror in places.

Then I stumbled across this awesome piece of music: Orient-Express: The Musical Travelogue by Alexander Schiffgen (http://www.amazon.com/Orient-Express-Various-Artists/dp/B000...). It's perfect! It starts off with the sound of a train whistle, and most of the tracks have the low humming of the rails in the background. The last track even as ambient sounds of the Istanbul train station. And the mp3 album is only $8.99. It will certainly be on "repeat" in my player when we break out Mystery Express for the first time.

Enjoy!

The Donnie Darko score would be pretty perfect, I think. Here's an excerpt (one of the darker sounding sections) that would fit the murder theme pretty well. Most of the score is subdued and mellow, but you get the occasional sections like this one that makes my skin crawl.

If Mystery Express were a movie, this is the music that would play when they find the murder victim. We'd show the reactions of the survivors in slow motion while the music plays.

Thank you very much for posting this! I will buy 'Mystery Express' soon and I always look for thematic music for my games, this suggestion is the best I heard so far.

Also if anyone wants to buy this album on digital form outside the US (Amazon mp3 is US only) it's available (a bit more expensive thought) from iTunes here.
