And Ken Brown, who's username I am unsure of.

They've sent in their seed numbers (to kinda-sorta-randomly assign supply and demand), and we're gonna get going.

We're using 'Tins' as the product, because everyone loves a game of buying and selling 'Tins'.

EDIT:
Switched out Fred West with Almarr Ormarsson, Fred has not yet sent in seed numbers, while Almarr had already. Fred, you can still join us, if you get seed numbers in before we resolve the first round.

EDIT:

Almarr brought this to my attention, and it has now been fixed. I transposed Kieth's wanted and price numbers. I fixed it, and this changes the outcome a bit

Hmmmm.... since I ordered 5 @ $5, it would have been ok to transpose my want and price numbers.

Maybe you did that to Ken's numbers? Kinda funny if you did... Ken and I have know each other for years, and when we sit down to a game together, people often call us by each other's name... it's that whole K-name thing: they are confusing... even I mix them up.

Ages ago, there was myself, Ken, a Chris, and someone else playing a game of Catan. I got called "Ken" so many times during the game that I finally made myself a paper name-tag thing that said "not Ken" and wore it for the rest of the evening.

And now it's one of those ongoing jokes when we're at the game table together: He's "Ken", I'm "Not Ken".

(I've updated my badge to reflect this )

And here's the final "debriefing" we all had via email...

It sounds like everyone is willing to go on if others want to go on, but no one is specifically wanting to. So, I think we should have our endgame discussion.

Congrats to our winner!

Yup... I think the outcome is clear. Congrats to Almarr!

Pretty funny/weird that Ken and I had picked the (almost) exact sequence of staring numbers... and I'm thinking (without any real analysis) that probably contributed to Almarr running away with the game. I am wondering how a game would go with more players... in the meantime I'll rub some salt in my wounds by going and losing a few (dozen) games of Zombie in my Pocket.

Curious to hear your thoughts Jeremiah, and thanks loads for running it!
2010-02-18 10:55am Jeremiah_Lee wrote:
The numbers picked were really fascinating to look at:

2,8,4,6,0,3,7,9,1,5 2,3,9,0,4,6,1,8,5,7 grautur
9,2,6,5,8,0,1,3,7,4 4,0,6,3,8,2,1,9,5,7 kswingruber
8,2,6,5,9,4,1,0,7,3 6.1.4.3.8.9.2.7.5,0 Ken B.

Look at the the 1st set (Supply) of Ken and Kieth! Then look at the last four of Almarr and Kieth. And, out of the last four Demand numbers, we had lots of agreement, even -all- fives on the second to last.

--

I think the game could be more interesting with more people, and it seems like the game could scale well up into 20 or so players, although I doubt we'll get a chance to play it with that many.

I bet a new game, with the three of you would not lead to a runaway winner, as there would likely be closer bids all around, and tighter margins.
2010-2-18 1:02pm grautur wrote:
Thanks guys!

I took a chance in the start and tried to buy a lot as cheap as possible (10 tins for $2 was my first bid). Fortunately it paid off and I was able to control the market a bit. I guess it wouldn't have happened with more player or if we were all more experienced.

Thanks a lot for running the game Jeremiah, its a bit unfortunate that the games requires that kind of "behind the scenes" work. Some internet application like you talked about would be really cool and make things a lot easier. I guess you want to play the next game and I could try to run it but I'm not quite sure I would as nice of a job and probably be a lot slower with updating it.

It was really fun and hopefully we'll do it or something similar again soon!

Greetings from the Land of Fire and Ice (From the result of this game maybe I should have played a bigger role in our economic system a few years ago)
2010-2-18 2:21pm Ken B. wrote:
Nice game Almarr. Thanks for running it Jeremiah.
With this number of players I really should have gambled more on large purchases right at the beginning, knowing what my numbers were.

I don't want to promise anything, or raise any hopes, but I do have an idea that it would be fun to program a "computerized game-master" for this. Really wouldn't be too difficult, but... I'm a computer-programmer-geek by trade, so often in the evenings I don't feel like doing more programming: too much like work. And then there's all sorts of other boardgame-related projects that are vying for my limited "free time"... sigh.

I'd love to see a computer GM. The game could be super-fast that way, which is another advantage.
