There must have been a moment at the beginning, where we could have said no. Somehow we missed it. Well, we'll know better next time.

Some images, such as this accessing this one from a geeklist:
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/36008/item/777066#item...
can be clicked on and viewed even when logged out of BGG.

Other images, such as this one (again accessing from a geeklist):
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/36008/item/777048#item...
prompt you for a username and log-in when clicked on.

Is this a bug or a "feature"? If it's a bug I'll submit it on the bug thread.

Also which way is it supposed to work?
Personally I disagree with requiring an account to see a simple photo. Put yourself in the shoes of someone who has only heard of this hobby 5 minutes ago and someone sends you a geeklist so you can see images of these "crazy new games". But you can't make out much from the tiny photos so you click on them, only to be prompted to register an account. You only just heard of this hobby, why would you care enough to register? It would just be a turn-off.

On the other hand, when you care enough to want to post something, that's when you register.

It's the size of the photo, not the photo itself. You need to be logged in to view the larger sizes.

So with the second one, if you go to http://www.boardgamegeek.com/image/599976/diamant?size=small
Then you don't need to log in. The listmaker linked the larger image, that requires log in, rather than the smaller image, which does not require log in.

I see. As it is, it's not very user-friendly. It would be nice if it could detect that you're accessing it from a geeklist, and if it's linked to a larger image and you're not logged in, it should default to the largest non-account image. THEN if you try to go to the larger image you get the log-in prompt.

It would add behind-the-scenes code complications but the interface would be more user-friendly.

So restricting viewing based on actual image size rather than image size category (medium, original, etc) would be a nice improvement as well.
