Despite Pandemic being my most played game of the past couple of years, I just finally got On the Brink.

Being a pharmacist, I now want to add my profession into the game with the blank role cards.

This is what I've come up with so far:

Pharmacist - May spend one action to remove all the cubes of a cured disease from your current location and all neighboring locations.

I feel it is kind of underpowered, but thematic. It might be good to only use it for advanced groups looking for a bit more challenge.

What do you think? Is it good, or is there something I should change to make it better?

I think it's a good ability; another vacuum cleaner like the Medic to help with eradication. But I would say that it needs some other ability for that player to have something to do for most of the rest of the game when that ability won't apply. Nothing too powerful, though, but something... Hmmm...

I suppose the main thing that a Pharmacist is known for is distributing medication, and that is reflected in the ability you have already... so maybe for another ability it could be something akin to the Containment Specialist, but on a smaller scale: "Whenever the Pharmacist enters a city with only one disease cube, remove that cube for free." That's not a very powerful, game-changing ability, but it helps a little to keep things cleaned up, and would make a nice companion ability with his ability to clear things up on a larger scale once something is cured.

Nice. Thanks for the idea. Another idea I was thinking about was this:

Any player that ends their turn in the same city as the pharmacist gets 1 free action.

What do you think? I'm shooting for the complementary nature of pharmacists. Of course it makes more thematic sense with some roles (like the medic or scientist) and less with others (like the dispatcher).

or...

A player who removes a cube in the same city as the pharmacist may remove 1 extra cube for free.

I'd love the Pharmacist. We tend to try and eradicate diseases as well as cure, and it just seems to take a very long time (unless you have the medic). I'm all for the auto-removing one cube too. thumbsup

What about "The pharmacist's Treat Disease can be used on an adjacent city instead of their current city if the player wishes"?

I don't know if that by itself throws off balance or would need to be combined with something else, but it could save that person a lot of moves?

(This would apply to the normal ONE cube, or to the cured all cubes the way Treat Disease normally works)

Kelsin's suggestion was also called "The Exporter" in a Variant thread for the basic game. I tried it and liked it, made a good treat disease role comparable to the the Medic.

Thanks for the great ideas... I think this is what I'm going to try...

Quote:
Pharmacist

When you enter a city with exactly one cube, remove it for free.
You may spend one action to remove all the cubes of a cured disease from your current location and all neighboring locations.

Now does anyone who has access to Photoshop want to make up a copy for me using the template? Please?

Here you go...

I don't know if you had a color preference, but I thought teal looked good. Anyway, I can change that to something else if you prefer. I'm giving you the GG for that.

The rule question that would follow:

Can you use his (second) ability in a city that has no cubes? IE, can he go to a 'central' location that is adjacent to several cities with cubes of a cured disease, but the central city itself has no such cubes... and use the ability? Or is it a precondition of the ability that the city he's in have at least one cube of the cured disease?

The wording doesn't indicate any kind of "must" as far as cubes being in the city you are in. Think of it this way... You may use one action to remove all of the cubes from a cured disease --- from the following locations --- your current city and any neighboring cities.

Do you print directly on one of the *blank* cards? Or do you print on paper and then glue/tape onto one of the *blank* cards?

(What works better?)

Personally I just use the blank card as a proxy. If someone is dealt the blank card, they just take a printout of the pharmacist card.

I printed on label sheets and then *stuck* it to one of the blank cards. It worked really good (unless you are running out of blank cards).

Just found this thread. I like the idea, but I think it's too powerful after cures, and not powerful enough before cures. As it was written, eradications would seem to be a piece of cake.

How about:

When you remove a cube from a city as an action, you may remove a cube of the same color from an adjacent city. If the disease is cured, you may remove one cube of the same color from all adjacent cities.
