I believe the board was redesigned and the player markers that you put on the start tile are wooden shaped fountains now. I thik everything else is the same so it would be compatible with the expansions.

plus new scorings markers and a MUCH larger box.

- the new scorings markers are a minor improvement
- The new board a major approvement (for people who get confused by meandering score tracks).
- the wooden fountains are so ugly that it almost hurt the game
- the large box is a great nuisance

all in all: not really worth the money

My solution: Dump the scoring track altogether and use poker chips instead. Less table space and less math and counting. HUGE improvement!

Not bad. I'm still willing to do some math in order to have a round-by-round record to recall the game after it ends:

Alhambra blank scoresheet Rev 10-2009

on the front it does not say anything about it being an anniversary edition, and on the back all it says is made in Germany 2009.

does this mean that i have the old or new edition?

It means you have the standard edition, 2009 printing.

so my version has all the same components as when the game was originally released in 2003?

Should be. The only difference, is the shape of the box, I think.

Not quite. The original release was called "Alhambra", but a Swiss toy maker holds the rights to that title, so they had to change the title from the SdJ-print run onwards to the title "Der Palast von Alhambra". This was an annoying change since the original card backs doesn't match the later card backs.

Also, another change was made, in that some people has problems with the original colors of the four currencies, so the brown coins was changed to green.

How can any one claim rights to that name? Is it a structure in Spain.

Regardless, my copy was from 2005 and it says Alhambra, has the green currency, and Alhambra on the back of the cards. Ditto on my Big Box edition.

From the looks of it, the latest multi-lingual edition of the game is the same as those.

Queen Games knows exactly how you feel
They were also forced to change their titles for Peanuts into Stimmt So! and Terra X into Expedition.

Peanuts is a popular American cartoon
Terra X is a popular German natural science TV show

Taj Mahal is a structure in India, but I bet you wouldn't be able to open a restaurant or casino in Las Vegas using that name.
