On a related note, I once gave a gamer a ride home after a game night. He had gotten to the game club by bus, and of course, at 1am, there were no buses running. I asked him "What would you have done if no one wanted to give you a ride home?" he said "walk". His home was about 20 miles away.

He then told me that once he bought a bus ticket with the last $10 he had, to go from Los Angeles to Oregon for some game convention. He then hitchhiked all the way back home.

I asked him "why did you do that?"

He said "Cause I wanted to go".

Now thats hardcore.

Yep, some people just don't need the same security about their safety or their timetable as some of us do. I have heard of that.

But now you tell me that 1 of them plays boardgames. Now that is new to me

Well I host it, but it's a 5-minute walk to the room we use above my university's bar (great location!)

0-15 minutes here. We have a two game groups. One is our close friends and we meet every Monday at our house for either Roleplaying (Warhammer or 2nd Edition AD&D) or Descent. And then the other group meets every other Saturday at our local library which is just a short ways away. At that group we mostly play board games whatever everyone brings.

I have a *very* longstanding group that meets most weeks - it used to be 15 mins down the road now it's at my place. But I've also started going to a group in the City of London (organised via Meetup.com - LondonOnBoard - recommended!). It's 30 minutes from where I work but by the time it packs up (around 10:30) I'm looking at a 90 minute trip home. You've got to love public transport, eh?

I walk to play at the FLGS down the hill with one group. Another group is a 15 minute drive.
