The game comes with two white cylinders, which it defines at "exchange tokens". However, I couldn't find any reference in the rules of these tokens beyond their existence. What are they for?

Once per game, each player can turn in his white exchange token and re-draw a hand of 4 cards. I've actually never played with them, so they're hardly essential.

If you want to exchange your hand for a new one, you give up your white token. In other words, once during the game you can exchange a particularly band hand.

The white exchange tokens are yet one more ingenious mechanism in a game that is arguably the best two player Euro of all time. Sometimes it is not used, but it can be a game-saver when it is. Usually I cash it in when I'm playing defensively (I must counter a possible four in the 1st Cartouche!)
