I think that all right-thinking people in this country are sick and tired of being told that ordinary, decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am.

The snow has been coming down for a good five hours, and the radar shows it will probably continue until nearly morning, for a total accumulation of 2-3 inches. People are getting worried, buying staple items at the grocery stores, gassing up their cars and trucks, closing schools early today and keeping them closed tomorrow, breaking out the parkas and hunting clothes, and generally going crazy.

I keep wanting to shout from the rooftops: "People! It’s 36 degrees Fahrenheit (2 deg. C) outside! The snow is NOT sticking to the roads, trees, overpasses, or even the grass! It’s only supposed to get to 30 (-1 C) overnight, and 42 (6 C) for a high tomorrow! Anything that sticks to the bridges will be melted by 8am! Get a grip!"

The problem is, I’ve lived here five years and this is the first time it’s snowed since I moved down. The last time it snowed and accumulated was, according to my co-workers, January of 2001. Since they only get this sort of winter precipitation about once a decade, and they get actual named Tropical Storms every 3-4 years, they’re much more accustomed to heavy rain than a light snow, so this bit of a "storm" is sending everyone into a tizzy.

I guess it all depends on what you’re used to.
