I just wanted to share a study method I use when learning new games.

I download and installed Natural reader - a text to speech program.
http://www.naturalreaders.com/download.htm (Free and no spyware)
I open the PDF of the rules, and past a section into the reader.
While the reader is reading to me, I follow the game board and look at the game.
By the way if the text appears choppy using a program like Text Cleaner (Free)
http://download.cnet.com/Text-Cleaner/3000-2381_4-10148056.h...
to clean up the extra carraige returns from PDF documents

Natural reader is a free text to speech program that can read text to while you play solo. Great for reading a game play example to you while you look at the game
http://www.naturalreaders.com/

I ended up buying the full version that reads web pages and microsft word right in the program, makes getting through long session reports and reviews much easier than reading it all the time. The full version also has better voices than microsoft sam. It also lets you make MP3s you could put on an IPOD

Hmm, this certainly something i wouldnt have considered. i recently received a kindle, and it does txt to speech, so i may give this a try.

I think everyone learns differently, some are good at just reading, some are better at hearing and the combination of the two tends to work really well, while others need to just engage(my wife is certainly one of those...let's just play).

Thanks for posting.

If you like learning games this way, I highly recommend the podcast series http://www.howtoplaypodcast.com/] by Ryan Sturm.

He does a good job of game-splainin' especially if you have the game spread out while you listen.

Cheers!
