You left out the "why does it make a difference either way?" option.
Thumbs are pretty meaningless.
I know my thumbs have done absolutely zip to improve my online or offline experience.

What about the warm, fuzzy feeling you get deep inside?

Offline, I find mine rather useful for grasping things.

Online, they tend to be used to hit the space bar.

I would like to see player's ratings comments also be thread roots.

Agreed.
and a fast tip option for Geekgold would be nice. Some guys here have very valuable comments (Some are more valuable than some of the reviews)

Dear god no. The moment anyone significantly changes a comment, the entire subsequent discussion is worthless. Even if the original text is preserved somehow—it simply doesn't reflect the current sentiment. The system would then need some form of revision management in order to make sense of it all. I'm sure Aldie & the gang have better uses for their time than to code a RCS/CVS-lookalike, even if it just uses a subset of their functionality.

@OP: it's very simple: no thumbs for comments. I wrote my ideas on what to do then here.

No.

Unless you've actually GeekGold tipped someone using the current system after reading a game comment, there is no reason to ask for this. I don't believe you have, so why ask for it?

It's invasive.

It's unnecessary.

It's fine the way things are.

Thanks.

No more than the current ability to post facto edit posts and comments in normal threads.

There is no techncal restriction to prohibit obliterating a normal thread and completely rewriting the content. In practice, though, it is mostly held to corrrecting spelling, grammar, or some other error.

In game comments, things are much more fluid and open to major changes. Too much so for me to think it is reliable to have them thumbable.

Much of the value of game comments is that they are written purely for one's own purposes, they're strictly about one's thoughts and feelings on a game.

I'm afraid making them thumb-able would mean that many people would starting trying to write clever comments solely for the sake of getting thumbs, which would undermine everything that makes them useful in the first place.

If that rambling makes sense.
