What is the difference between an event and an encounter.. is there any?

For example, I passed a Brains roll with Rose and got a plot event. So I went to the adventure I was on e401 and rolled on the plot encounter line. So they are the same?

I ask because I want to know if when I roll on the encounter matrix. If I get a plot event from Rose and roll on the plot line, when I'm done with that do I then roll on the encounter matrix before ending that turn?

I'm trying to go through my first run here and struggling a bit, so I apologize for the mass postings :-)

No need to apologise...

An event is one of many types - Character, Plot, Location etc

An 'encounter' is what you roll for on the encounter table (r307) after you have an Action. If you then do have an encounter (because you rolled 7+ on Turn 1-4, or 6+ on Turn 5-8 etc) then you roll to see the type of event you have.

Only a subtle difference...
