Hello all!

I pose to you a challenge: please help me with the name of a game that I played but can't remember the name of. It would have been around 1998.

This was a chess-like game, but played on a multi-level circular board. So think Byzantine chess, but with maybe 3 stacked boards. A complex plastic setup. Pieces could move between the levels, although the "king" could not capture. I think that the "king" piece shared its name with the name of the game, but I'm not sure.

Help me, oh BGG, you're my only hope.

Thanks.

Maybe this version of 3-d-chess?

More to look at:

Wow, I totally forgot about that game, thanks!

(For some reason, I'm trying to catalog all the games I've ever played.) blush

Hmm. No, this one definitely had pieces that didn't look like chess, bit more like Cirondo instead of the traditional shapes. Thanks for the link, but it's none of those 3D chess games either.

The playing area was circular - not just the boards. It would be like stacking multiple Byzantine Chess, Circular Chess, or Noble Celts boards in 3-D. And it definitely felt like chess, not a Qubic or See Queue.

Close, but not:

YES!

"The object of the game is to capture the opponent's Life Force piece." I suspected that lifeforce had something to do with it, but I wasn't sure.

Thank you! Now I can stop beating my head trying to remember.

That's quite a rare game! Taliesin Master Board Game, I looked it up.

Still, I am intrigued. Do you have the rules? Could they be posted?

I would think with this game being rarer than hen's teeth, the admins wouldn't object to the rules being posted as a file.

What is BGG's take on posting rules for all-but-forgotten games?

It sure appears to be! Currently only one place online seems to even list it... for about 250 USD. Maybe it's time to start hitting up the flea markets.

Sorry, make that 175 USD. I can't do math right now.

Let me answer my own question...

The rules are captured in a photograph on the BGG entry for the game, see

However, these seem to be the rules for the single board version. There are probably a few more rules to cover the three-board version.

Incredibly, there was one on eBay a few weeks ago for only 10 pounds!
