I try to visit BGG on a daily basis, and usually more than once a day. My wife thinks I spend too much time searching out games that I might want to buy, but likely will never play. And while I enjoy visiting this site, it is not like the very first time I stumbled onto this marvelous gaming encyclopedia. So much information, so little time to explore it all. And it is interactive; I could post my questions and observations! So I thought giving up BGG for Lent might be a good idea. It would likely please my wife as I would spend the time I would otherwise be at the computer with her or doing chores around the house. And when I return on Easter, I might just experience the same feeling I had when I visited BGG for the first time.

I don't want happiness by halves, nor is half of sorrow what I want. Yet there's a pillow I would share, where gently pressed against a cheek like a helpless star, a falling star, a ring glimmers on the finger of a hand.

Good luck with that!

But isn't the idea that you give up something really significant for Lent? Does BGG, as fine as it is, meet that test for importance? I suggest giving up religion for Lent.

Close. I'm not Catholic, but LDS (Mormon). The leader of our local congregation challenges us each January to give up discretionary media (internet, TV, movies, music, etc.) for a month. I didn't do so well.

Will you feel better if I said that BGG is not discretionary? I can prove it.

No doubt your minister, is that the right term, will take a web poll as evidence.

If you proclaim publicly what you're giving up for Lent, then it's not a true sacrifice since you get rewarded for it on Earth.* Therefore, you can now tell your wife that you can't give up BGG for Lent.

Always glad to help!

*(General sentiment in Matthew 6:5, though I'm almost positive I've seen more specific mentions elsewhere.)

You know, it only works if you never go back and look at any content uploaded during lent.

If you do, you haven't really "given it up." All you've done is delayed it.
