There should be a Word Games Subdomain, or at least a Word Games Forum!

I do.

I bought Agricola because it was No. 1 here, and got an outrageous review. (he was right). We already played Puerto Rico.

Personally, Agricola is better. Basic Puerto Rico is now dull.
I do not want to play it any more with just basic buildings.

I do still want to play basic Agricola because it has more depth.

I wish I could thumb this more than once.

And why should your preference of Agricola above Puerto Rico make you care if Agricola is #1 or #2?

I still don't get it.

He's saying he's glad that Agricola was #1, because he might not have considered it if it was #2.

Seems like a reasonable position. I'm sure we all pay attention to buzz and reviews when choosing new games, and the game rankings are an aspect of that.

I'm afraid you lost me there.

Personally I'm waiting for several games to overtake the #1 spot or possibly the #2 spot so I can purchase them because if you're not Silver or Gold, you're only Bronze or no medal at all.

In this case I don't believe in the current Gold or Silver (Agricola or Puerto Rico) pretenders as everyone knows those games both were involved with doping, steroid use, and fixed judges.

I can't wait to buy a different game that is clean and free from controversy when it takes over these top two spots.

can someone explain why Agricola is #1 with fewer votes and a lower Average rating than Puerto Rico?

I don't get it

The rankings are based off the Geek Rating, not the Average Rating. The Geek Rating includes super-secret adjustments based on Things Man Was Not Meant To Know.

I do too. I own them both and enjoy them both, but Puerto Rico isn't even in the same league as Agricola. I don't understand why PR is rated so highly as games like Power Grid are much better than PR.

Haha, this reminds me of these comparisons:
'My C-64 is better than your ZX-Spectrum, the Sega Genesis is better than the SNES, the Playstation is better than the N-64' etc....etc....
I own both games, Puerto Rico AND Agricola. (Plus all the expansions).
Personally, I think Agricola looks (and plays) definitely better than Puerto Rico, but keep in mind that PR came out 5 (five) years earlier!
In boardgames-world, this is an eternity.
In these five years, the market has seen many, many boardgames coming....and disappearing,
Some of these were bad, some good, others were masterpieces that still deserve to be played these days.
So why compare these two gems?
Why start a discussion about what game's first or second place?
Just get 'em both.... and play them both! wow
