why does one version of the box of the game indicate that there are 204 pieces in the box and on another version of the box of the game it indicates that there are 215 pieces?

From what I understand the picture with 215 figures is an old prototype of the cover before the game was released. The final product contains 204 figures.

That's correct. If he had scrolled down just a few more lines that is exactly what you can read in the comment of Roberto Di Meglio :)

All the final box images here on BGG (Spanish, French, Dutch, German, English, Italian) say '204 figures included'.
