Check the ebay auction details I've spotted on ebay

$135 for both Airlines and Airlines 2 whistlegulpyuk A bit excessive, pricewise. But that is just my opinion!

Diff.

I picked up this game and it's sequel on the cheap at last year's WBC bargain table. I'm in the industry and was willing to give it a chance.

I just played my 1st 2-player game and...

BOY IS IT EVER C%*P! We both couldn't remember the last time we'd played a game this bad.

This is almost the Necronomicon of bad games. I may burn it in our fireplace to keep anyone else from losing some degree of sanity...sauron

Way to go Avalanche Press! You sure are keeping up (down?) your reputation for mediocrity.

I'm in the same boat. I have Airlines mostly because I work in the airline industry and really wanted it to be good.

But it wasn't.

I keep thinking that I'll take the cards and make a whole new game based on it but so far I haven't.

Right now I'm looking at it as an airline card game construction set.

I'm replying to an old post but I work in the industry too and it's a shame this game is so bad. I'd love to buy it. Is it worth considering for $20?

Only if you take the cards and make a whole new game based on it, as Ayrk suggested above. To look at the cards, you'd think there is a great game there, but...

Just played it a bunch of times last month. Our game group is of mixed opinion about the game, though we all agree that it is at least somewhat fascinating and within the reach of being a good game. One felt the game to be perfect right out of the boxes. The rest of us agree that the problem with the game is in the area of obtaining planes and gates and disagree on a solution. We tried various methods of bidding on the resources and the game play improved, but never quite attained the point of being "perfect".

My feeling is that the fundamental flaw is that is a very loooong game and we never found a fix that made the game enough fun for ME to want to keep playing beyond an hour or two. Good subject, nice artwork and some interesting mechanics along the way.

Thanks Martin. We would only play 2 player if that makes a difference.

I think that would probably only reduce the time to play. All of our variants were for the acquisition of planes and gates and involved some sort of bidding process that might not work as well with two. We played four and five player games.

Considering this game is nearly 20 years old, there is now a nostalgia factor with the airplanes in the game. A passenger Boeing 707? 727? A DC-10? It really is too bad that this effort fails as a game, because you can tell there was a passion behind the design.

P.S. - I can't speak to Airlines 2, since I don't have it. But from what I can recall, Airlines 2 was printed at the same time as Airlines. Draw from that what you will.

airlines 2 adds more plane, hub, and misc cards. no changes to the rules.

beautiful cards, clunky mechanics and not much fun at all. Like the others in this thread, I have occasionally pulled this game out and tried to design something from it that is fun and works but alas nada so far. Maybe stealing aspects of the new kick-starter game, Airlines (yeah, same name),
like a second deck of cards for buildings, etc, having to buy into the various hubs for gate access, picking up and delivering actual passengers for pts or $ might work....but really, who has the time for all that?
