I did, although through the magic of DVRing, it didn't take 18 hours to watch. Thank god too. I love their practice of showing TWO commercial breaks in a row. And oh how I love Geico. Not that it matters. I've found that though Curling is awesome, it's a little slow and more than a little loooong. I've started fast forwarding all the way through the commercials and up to the last 4 (per team) stones.

Oh, and dear announcers: SHUT the EFF up about the crowd noise. We don't care. We're watching a sport. The crowd is cheering. Let it go.

I am pleased to say that I have not watched a single minute of Olympic coverage this year. Come to think of it, I've successfully ignored the Olympics since at least 1984. I just can't make myself pretend that sports that I've been ignorant about for the last 3 years and 11 months are suddenly worth following. I also strongly dislike nationalism, so the country vs. country battles for medals make me uncomfortable (and are at least a little bit harmful in terms of world affairs, IMO).

This used to be annoying when there were only three national American TV networks and my TV viewing would be compromised for two weeks. But now, with cable, it's very easy to ignore the whole thing.

Didn't mean to rain on anyone's parade, but the Olympics are a giant, every-four-years yawn for me, and the Winter Olympics are an even bigger yawn. And I'm glad that someone enjoys curling, but I'd rather gouge my eyes out with melon ballers than watch even 18 minutes of it!

I watched the "Clash of the Titans" which was Canada vs. Great Britain. It was a great match--that throw by the GB guy in the 3rd end was phenomenal--if you happened to catch it. Plus, I thought the crowd erupting into the national anthem was pretty cool too. I agree about the commentators going on and on about the crowd noise though. Seems that Curling would be a sport that would have a bunch of rowdy drunken fans watching...

Me too. I was only able to see a little bit.

I did watch an incredible hockey game between the USA and Canada. That was pure awesome.

I really don't care about many sports, too much commercialism and worshiping of people I wouldn't trust to mow my lawn. As for the nationalism, I'm there with you really. I just liked watching the matches and seeing the choices they made for each play not really caring so much who won. I feel the same way on the rare occasions I watch hockey. I enjoy the game more than the outcome.

Once I found out that MSNBC and CNBC are tag teaming curling and hockey my TV has been on cruise control for awesome.

For kicks I go checkout NBC and am not surprised that it is ads then talking, then ads, then talking, ads, very abbreviated version of some event (showing only USA and the winning runs), then more ads.

Me. Well, maybe nine hours of curling and nine hours of commercials.

Saturday was a lot more fun than Sunday. I feel bad for Debbie McCormick. It seemed like she lost her groove at the end of the game Saturday night and then it just snowballed into a catastrophe. Congratulations to the Canadian women for playing so well, though. By the way, did anyone else notice that one of the CNBC announcers dropped a J-bomb when McCormick missed a shot on Saturday?

Meanwhile I made my Dad watch and at first he was asking "do those brooms really do anything?" and "what the hell is the point?" but then when one of the teams drew a rock around a guard to land right on the cross-hairs he started yelling "Oh my god! Oh my god!!!"

I think that all right-thinking people in this country are sick and tired of being told that ordinary, decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am.

I didn't watch all 18 hours (or whatever it was) but I did see quite a bit. However, I interrupted my enjoyment of curling to watch the US-Canada hockey game. Man, what a barn-burner! The news reports keep going on about the 5-3 final, but that last one was an empty-net goal and (to me, anyway) really shouldn't count. As far as I'm concerned it was a 4-3 game, just like the 1980 US-USSR final.

Speaking of which, did anyone else watch the 30-year retrospective on that game? Not being a hockey fan, I learned a lot about the team and the games that led up to that showdown. I was sorry to hear that the coach died in an auto accident in 2003, but was pleased to hear that one of the players for the US team is now coaching the US women's Olympic hockey.

Back to curling: GAH! Why did the US coach allow that Schuster back on the ice? Seemed like as soon as he was throwing third, the team started losing again. We won one with him off the ice, then another with him throwing first, but lost as soon as he started throwing third. With a 2-5 record there is no way we can win enough to advance at the end of the round robin. Isn't there an alternate player to put in?

The US women aren't doing much better, but they don't seem to be failing in as spectacular a fashion as the men.

This is all the more disappointing considering how much better everyone thought we would do. I hoped we would at least equal last time and have one of the teams medal, but neither one is likely to qualify for the medal round.

Being a Canadian, it's almost mandatory to be a fan of either hockey or curling. I happen to be both.

There were many great games of curling this weekend. Here in Canada, curling is pretty well covered, on CTV, Rogers Sportsnet and TSN. I got to see every Team Canada game (men's and women's) and even some others. I really hope that Canada will keep playing well and win some medals in curling. It's nice being a young curler in the province that both Olympic teams are based in (Alberta).

The big showdown hockey game was exciting, but disappointing. Miller played fabulously. I think Canada will get it together against Germany, and hopefully be able to beat Russia as well. USA looks like a good candidate for gold. They may not have the best team on paper, but they try really hard and play really well.

Yes, I'll cop to this. I am adamantly NOT an Olympics fan, but curling, when competitive, is pretty interesting to watch. That granted, I didn't really watch the men compete at all. The women curlers are a very good looking group, especially the Danish team.

The nationalism in the TV coverage is much less pronounced than it was when I was a kid. In the 70s and 80s they never showed sports unless the US had a chance at a medal and then they followed the Americans incessantly. They still cover the Americans more than is necessary, but much of the cross country coverage, for example, just mentioned them in passing as they crossed a checkpoint. The majority of the coverage was on the contenders.

Curling is about the only thing I haven't watched, although I enjoyed a lot of it four years ago. Biathlon makes surprisingly good television as did all the cross country skiing. I missed a lot of the events as the whole thing is filling up my DVR faster than I can watch it.

I've always loved the Olympics and wish I could see more of these sports during the years in between. I prefer winter to summer for the skiing and speed skating events. I was telling someone the other day that I think I saw more skiing when I was a kid on ABC's Wide World of Sports than I do now that there's dozens of sports-only networks. Are there winter sports exclusive channels out there?

So being a bit ignorant of the women mentioned, I ventured into Googleland, and lo and behold...

Well - that's something unexpected.

Similar to Bocce which the Italian immigrants and descendents here play?

Probably the same game as it was brought to Brazil by Italian immigrants.
