I was wondering if a guard order can be played at the immediate start of the overlords turn, thus denying a monster with regeneration, lets say Alric, from being activated allowing the heroes a chance to kill him before he does regen?

Yes it can.

It is a common tactic when using Tahlia (who can move when using a guard order) to use the guard during the OL's draw phase (ie immediately, interrupting before the OL draws his first card or his threat) and move Tahlia into a position that better denies spawning.
