Both scenarios included with this set have the Goblin Hyena Riders marked with a Blue-Mounted Flag with the Goblin symbol and an "A" notation marked next to it.

The "A" notation is supposedly there to differentiate the Hyena Riders from "base set" units...

However, if I'm not mistaken, the only Mounted Goblin units in any other set are Green-Flagged, not Blue, so there shouldn't be any need for additional differentiation...

Or am I just missing something that's blindingly obvious to everyone else?

I can't reference my game materials right now, but does this have to do with the banner problems in this expansion? If you're not sure, go read through any of the threads about banners and/or replacing them and see if that answers your question.

I recall that situation, but this is unrelated to that as far as I can tell. The printing in the scenario shows the correct marker.

There was a printing mistake in this expansion set, the blue mounted archer banners should have been blue mounted long sword banners. WOD had a replacement deal for a while to get the proper banners. No published scenario calls for blue mounted archers only green ones (for the ostrich riders). Use the Blue mounted long sword banner from the base set for your Hyena riders.

I know about the banner misprint, and this is not the banner misprint. I understand that the scenario correctly calls for Blue mounted long sword banners.

However, in the scenario map these banners are marked with an "A", supposedly to differentiate them from flags in the base set.

However, there is no conflict with flags in the base set (or otherwise, as far as I know) as there are no Goblin figures in the base set that use the blue mounted long sword banner. The mounted goblins in the base set use the *green* mounted long sword banner so the Goblin symbol alone should be enough to differentiate them from any other figure.

What I would like to know is whether there is something I'm missing with this, or if it was just a minor mistake on DOW's part when putting this together?

I think you've got it and aren't missing anything - the reason for marking them differently is to call attention to the fact that although they do use the same banners as the human blue banner cavalry, it is the Hyena figures being used. Perhaps a little overdone marking them with the goblin blazon and the A, but that is the reasoning.
