or do you need the first to play? if you combine them, how does it work? do you control the 12 hero players or still play with a certin amount? can you play a one player game with the original an exp or would that be to hectic? ill most likley be playin 1 player games or 2-3 at the most. and do you mix up all the cards or do you just seperate them depending on which map they go to

You need the base game to play. You can play solo with the base game or the base plus the expansion. You mix up the Mystery and Event cards, but there are also new stacks of cards. The game plays fine solo. It also plays well as a co-op or competitive game for 2-3.

Each player plays 1 character typically, but when you play solo you can play any number, but running more than 3 characters by yourself is a little tedious.

I'm including my reviews so that you can make some informed buying decisions.

I hope that helps. The game is very playable and very fun (even solo), but there are quite a number of rules gray areas which caused me to bump the game down about 1/3 of a letter grade. If looking up rules questions online or making up things as you go along doesn't bother you then you might grade several of these about 1/3 of a point higher.

Lee's right about the rules. You do have to hunt around for answers to questions. I read the BGG forums and checked out the wiki at http://www.flyingfrog.net and then printed out the questions I was interested in. I have a pretty good grip on the game now but I still occassionally have to look things up in my notes.

LNOE has similar rules problems.
