You've been here since 2004 (just like me!) - what can't you find? What were you trying to post?

while i think both of your chosen adjectives are wrong (it would take, at the very least, some more nested menus to reach any form of convolution, and everything does -function- last i checked), i'll assume you maybe meant un-intuitive?

Check out a few of the web-sites for big, high powered companies. They really suck. BGG is one of the best designed web-sites I've seen. And initially, I don't think anybody got paid to build it...

I kind of agree. It took me a lot of searching just to find the forum post that explained what Geek Gold was and how you get it. There's doesn't seem to be any way to search for who has checked "want to play" for a given game, and only a limited facility for finding someone who "wants to trade" a given game.

But there doesn't seem to be another site with the same coverage of board games.

I'm going to have to agree. Don't get me wrong, BGG is my favorite website, by far, but the site itself is somewhat of a mess. Amateurish would be a good descriptor.

Just like the best games, fiddly, chromed and full of awesome. But yeah, setup takes about 2 hours.

"Cottage industry" might be a better descriptor - for both the site and many of the designers, and DIYers.

The homely touch makes it a friendly and not-so-intimitating place to be - but you have to do your own dishes and figure out where they go back on the shelves.

I know how to give thumbs, give money and hit submit.

Esoteric interface indeed. Not for the uninitiated.

Being a new member myself, I have to agree that the site is a tad user-unfriendly, or should I say new user-unfriendly. With that said I am learning and finding my way around. And I won't really complain beyond this post since it seems the site is run by people volunteering their time without any compensation.

Now I just need to figure out how to get some gold for an avatar

It's definitely something BGG should consider changing. For now, if you enjoy the site I recommend dropping $5 in a GG auction here. That will buy you an Avatar, 5MBs, and change.

I wish this were suggested more often, but people have this notion that you should "work" for GG. I can personally attest that the site hands out loads of GG for very little work if you're in the right place at the right time. This is so much the case that users often end up holding contests to give away the windfalls. I'm considering doing exactly that sometime soon. My point is that the GG system isn't remotely consistent and the incentives it is intended to provide are often a joke. Just buy some if you want to trick out your profile.
