One criticism of Monopoly Deal Card Game is that so much money becomes available in players' banks that collecting rent no longer becomes a viable option for forcing properties to switch. I suggest the following house rule:

When you collect rent, place any collected properties in front of you on the table, but place any other collected cards (either money or action cards used as money) into your hand.

This variation encourages players to optimize the timing of their rent collection, as they don't want to be forced to discard cards collected as money. It also recycles the action cards and prevents them from being permanently taken out of play (also avoiding the possible stalemate caused if all the action cards are banked before any player has won.)

This variant:
1) removes the ability to strategically remove action cards (such as RENT for colors you don't own) from ever being played
2) Cheapens the values of smaller money cards in relation to the 'action' required to play them.
3) Removes incentive to play out properties because the defensive 'bank' requires actions to play out instead of a single card that can quickly bolster your bank.

RENT cards are useful throughout the game as a means to make a quick score and transfer funds/property from someone else to you. If you don't get property, you get a defensive shield in your bank that protects the properties that you do have. Sucking them into the hand requires that you then spend actions to play them back out. This either slows the game to a crawl as everyone is always playing money to the table... or speeds it up to a point where it is too fast because no-one has defensive money in the bank and ONLY properties transfer when a debt is owed.

The game has definite phases, as marked by the usefulness of the three flavors of 'DEAL' cards (SLY, FORCED and BREAKER). If someone has a big bank, you have to DEAL the cards you want away from them. If someone has a small bank, you can RENT/BIRTHDAY/DEBT COLLECTOR their properties away.

Honestly, this is a filler game and is just the right length as is. Money has one use: protect property. There is a way around a large bank (the DEALS) and that's as should be.

Lets not house rule this gem of a card game into oblivion like it's board game heritage.
