This evening we probably had the biggest number of players attending in a long time. At one point we broke into two groups since we didn't have a game that could fit everyone. But attendance was gradual; it started with just Dave, Jim, and Alice. We were looking for a quick game so we picked Smear.

The three of us played one hand. Dave and Alice had to do quite a bit of drawing from the deck, but Jim didn't as much, so when he had the opportunity to close the last stream and end the round, he did, believing that he had fewer points in his hand than the others. He was right: he only had 35 points, while Alice had 90 and Dave had 110.

During that hand Adam and Sue arrived, so we decided to include them in the game and start over. The five of us ended up playing three hands. Adam and Dave had a very close game throughout. In all three rounds the difference between the two of them was never more than 15 points. Jim started with a pretty respectable 90 in round 1, but his 195 point round 2 torpedoed his chances. Alice had a great 45 points in round 3, but she had scored too much in the earlier rounds and couldn't make up the difference. Sue seemed to struggle, as all three rounds were in three digits, and progressively got worse (100, 110, 140), but it was her first playing of the game. In the end, Dave pulled out a narrow win, coming back from a 15 point deficit to Adam to win with a total of 185 points.
