I don't think I've ever heard them talk about Obama on the news without calling him "Rising Star Barack Obama". It's almost become part of his name now. I haven't noticed a tag stick this heavily and consistantly since "Panamanian Strongman Manuel Noriega".

Can you think of others?

I've noticed that no one refers to him simply as "Obama," probably to eliminate any icky associations. It's always AT LEAST Barack Obama.

When I first heard his name I though it was actually "Baracco Bama".

I saw on the cover of Star in the supermarket this week that Nick lachey has lost his name, and is now referred to as simply Jessica Simpson's husband. Poor guy, lost his career, and now his name.

The A-Team
The first time I heard his name it made me think of the A-Team. Mr. T's character was B. A. Barracas (sp?). Mr. T he ain't. I think would actually prefer having Mr. T in his spot on the Hill. "I pity the fool that don't vote for my resolution!"

Stale bread and butter
I read an essay years ago from a former editorial columnist who said that the paper's chief editor preferred using a standard epithet for B-list celebrities.

He mentioned specifically having mentioned Jerry Lee Lewis in an column draft, and his chief editor penciled in "piano-pounding entertainer" before Lewis' name. The columnist removed it, and his editor chewed him out and put it back again.

one line of the essay was something like: If variety is the spice of life, overused adjectives are the stale bread and butter of newspaper life.
