One of the early icons of television has passed away today. Art Linkletter was 97.

His program, House Party was a television institution of the 50's and 60's. His segment, "Kids Say the Darndest Things" became hugely popular in its own right, and became a series hosted by Bill Cosby in the late 1990's.

His personal endorsement to The Game of Life was one of the things I recall as a child. Seeing play money with a REAL PERSON'S image and signature struck me as something amazing. That this man was really, really important.

See the $100,000 bill.

His name and likeness no longer grace the components of the game.

Rest in Peace.

I remember watching House Party as a wee child. I have one of his books entitled "Kids Say The Darndest Things" and it's still hugely funny.

Yeah, that's the version of Life I had, still have somewhere in my dad's basement.

I remember when I became aware of Kids Say the Darndest, and I was like, Hey, it's the guy from Life!

"I heartily endorse this game"

I never really knew who he was, other than he must have been famous for some reason. I mean, he was on the $100,000 bill -and- had his quote on the outside of the box.
