I am a member of the Adelaide Board Game Group (ABGG) and chances are if this post has caught your attention you probably live in or around Adelaide and are interested in board games. The ABGG collectively has over 1,500 different games so chances are if you want to play a game someone in the group would probably already own it!

The ABGG has been around since 2006 and is an informal group of gamers who gather regularly at various Adelaide locations to play Board Games and some card games.

We play Euros such as Agricola, Carcassonne, Puerto Rico, Goa, Dominion and Ticket to Ride as well as games such as Railroad Tycoon, Arkham Horror and Pandemic.

We charge no membership fees and encourage anyone - member or not - to come try out games.

Meetings are held on:

•First Sunday of the month (this Sunday June 5 is the next meeting) at St Martin's Church Hall, NE Cnr Hampstead/Muller Rd, Greenacres from 11:30am to 6pm. This is our main meeting and usually has the largest turn out.
•Mondays at Unley Bridge Club (Annex), 243 Young St Unley, from 7pm.
•Saturdays at Movie Nights, Shop 13 Greenacres Shopping Centre Cnr North East & Muller Rd, Greenacres from 10:30am to 6pm.

All these events are open to non-members, with no dues! Gold coin donations ($2 for Movie Nights) are asked for use of all venues.

If you live in Adelaide and reply to this post we will gift you with a 2 Geekgold tip (subject to a limit of 50GG)!

Look forward to seeing you soon!

The ABGG is older than you think.

No need to remind of how old I am getting.

Get involved in ABGG we are not as bad as not playing boardgames!

If ABGG started back in 2005, and the minimum age for most games is 8+, that means you are at least 13... Wow, you're old!

edit: Yep, shore would be nice to get some new faces around

I just discovered ABGG a year ago and was stoked to find a meeting in the NE suburbs. (Half the group was off at BorderCon when I came to my first meeting at Greenacres). Can't seem to make it to the Sunday meetings more than 2 out of every 3 months, but now I can get to Movie Nights occasionally on Saturdays, so I get to slake my boardgame addiction a little more often.

Well worth coming to the meetings. I generally get to play 4 to 7 games on a Sunday, 2 to 5 on a Saturday, depending on length.

And I'm going to BorderCon too, this year.

I keep meaning to come along again - had a great time last time. The group is very welcoming and I got to try a bunch of great games. Hopefully I'll make it to another meetup soon!

I've been aware of the ABGG for almost a year now, but I've never actually taken the initiative to turn up to one of your events. Some day soon, I really should try to make it to a session.

I just wish I could make it out to more sessions, playing at ABGG events is great, especially the opportunity to play some "serious" games rather than another game of Ticket to Ride Europe which is the family favorite.

Agree. However it would also be great if the ABGG was able to get more newbies involved who would actually really enjoy playing TTR! If I was new to board games and had to choose between Age of Steam and Brass I don't think I'd be coming back again.

If more people came to the meetings it would provide more opportunity for people to play the type of games that they are interested in, rather than having to join in with the game(s) that the group has chosen.

Just a note for those who think I may have abandoned the idea of attending. Was not able to make it last Sat, and now it doesn't look like I'll make it this Sat either! I'll be there next Sat, I swear!

Hi, I'm thinking about coming along the next Sunday session (1/8/10). Do I just turn up, or do I need to sign up somewhere?

One day I will get to a board game group session but I live down Victor Harbor(Inman Valley) way and its along trek to drag the kids(home educator). On a Sunday would be good of course, but we play a regular session with my folks after lunch. And evenings are just too far; becomes a late night. Now if there was a games group further South of the city.
