This gaming table is currently being critiqued at on boardgamenews.com, as it's at a minimum of $50 per side or $300 to make this table to play mostly public domain games.

I don't know if it's necessarily a bad idea (though leg slots would be nice) if you could put six great game boards on the table as oppposed to six dated games.

For example:
A Twilight Struggle board
A Merchant of Venus board
A Titan board

You could do a crokinole board with some pins.
Eh, I don't know what else.

What six games would you choose?

I'm really wondering if I could even dimension my games properly on the box, but if we remove physics and just choose games, my obscenely expensive endtable would have:

Twilight Struggle

A&A50

Battlestar Galactica (complete with Pegasus, but not New Caprica)

A modular section for Settlers of Catan (the hexes silhouettes would be indented in the side and it would have a removable glass cover to hold the tiles in if it weren't the side on the top.)

Fury of Dracula

Rise of Empires

Also, since we did away with the laws of the universe and general reality long ago in this design, I'm going to have storage inside the table for all of the components for those six games. The table might get a bit heavy.

Chinese Checkers (abstract that plays up to 6) and the chessboard (lots of games on an 8x8 grid) are good choices.

I would add Ingenious, Through the Desert, Pandemic, and either Blue Moon City or Tigris & Euphrates.

There are so many games that either have a non-permanent board (Tikal etc) or no board at all (slews of card games). I'd deliberately leave those out, since that seems to defeat the purpose of the exercise. As such, it probably wouldn't be my 6 faves - selection would depend on something else, most likely a visual consideration. Off the top of my head, six games where the board consists of a map of the (or a) world for instance, or six games with a similar theme or similar primary mechanic.

Alternatively, I could go the other way around: find a single game using five or six boards and go with some sort of magnetic setup and lifted edges so the cube could be spun according to which side is needed. It still wouldn't be very practical, but the added novelty value could make up for that.

Carthage: The First Punic War
Circus Maximus
Strat-O-Matic Pro Football
Three Days of Gettysburg (third edition)
The Great War in Europe: Deluxe Edition
And some kind of Magic: The Gathering thing.
It would have to be a pretty big table.

Themed tables would be cool.

I would get a few tables.

An 18xx table
A gateway table with games like Setters, TTR, Stone Age, etc.
An horror table with Arkham, Last Night, etc.
A co-op table with Pandemic, Shadows over Camelot, BSG, Castle Panic, etc.
A table with games like Twilight Imperium, Dust, Nexus Ops, etc.
Two wargame tables; one with lighter games like CoH, Combat Commander, etc. and one with heavier games like ASL, etc.
A children's table with games like Chateau Roquefort, etc.
An abstract table with games like Blokus, etc.
An Euro table with games like Puerto Rico, etc.

and other variously themed tables.
