It was originated on r.g.b years ago by Alison Handel(south shore gamers) in 2000 in a session report for Carcassonne and was a contraction of "My People".

Good enough place to ask as any: Does someone own the right to the word? Do I need to attribute it to lucasfilms at the bottom of every page in my rulebook?

Correction:

What lies inside a Meeple is a heart of pure darkness. They wake at night and crawl through your house, plotting your demise. When you are dead and buried Meeples will still remain in your stead.

But thats all merely legend.

The truth of the matter is far more sinister...

Call of Meepluhu? Stupid me! I thought its wood ...!
(guess I'm also bored at work gulp )
