Hi!

I'm in a bit of a quandary and hoping someone here is knowledgeable about wristwatches.

My youngest daughter is going to be 16 and I want to buy her a nice watch. I already gave my older daughter a watch on her 16th, but that was relatively easy, because she's not sporty, so finding something small and elegant was relatively easy.

My youngest IS sporty and I've looked at a number of watches, but they're usually these big bulky things.

Anyone have any suggestions of a sporty watch that's also small and elegant?

Thanks, H.

I just looked that up. Pretty cool! It's on the list.

I have some flexibility to go higher budget-wise. Any other suggestions?

Much obliged, H.

I think that all right-thinking people in this country are sick and tired of being told that ordinary, decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am.

Those are way cool! I much prefer a pocket watch, and if they had any of those in a pocket style, I'd buy it.

They still make Swatch! I remember going through a few in the late 80's

Edit: after looking at link, wow there are some fancy ones now.

What's your budget?

Tag Heuer makes some really nice men sport watches, but the prices tend to be in the low four figures. Pretty steep compared to fossils and swatches.

The guy who created Swatch died yesterday. Here's his obituary from This Is True:

THIS WEEK'S HONORARY UNSUBSCRIBE goes to Nicolas Hayek. A business consultant in Switzerland, in the early 1980s Hayek's firm was asked by the nation's banks to help liquidate two bankrupt Swiss wristwatch manufacturers, which had collapsed thanks to cheap digital timepieces from Asia. Hayek was optimistic about the ability of Swiss firms to compete, if only they would offer low-cost alternatives in addition to pricy top-of-the-line watches. He joined the companies together into a conglomerate called "SMH Swiss Corporation for Microelectronics and Watchmaking Industries Ltd.", and bought a controlling share. SMH's new cheaper offering, called "Swatch" for "Swiss Watch", was a hit, and rescued the Swiss watchmaking industry, including well-known Swatch-owned brands like Omega, Longines, Hamilton, and others. (The company was renamed "The Swatch Group Ltd." in 1998.) Hayek also played a key role in developing the "Smart Car", especially with the Swatch-derived concept of interchangeable body panels. He died June 28 from heart failure at 82.

AND SO LONG to Edith Shain, who says she was the woman in the famous Eisenstaedt photo of a nurse being kissed on Times Square by a passing soldier on V-J Day (when Japan surrendered during World War II), dead June 27 at 91.

If you can afford it, a water-resistant Kinetic with stopwatch would be perfect. I also find if I'm active (and thus, sweating) rubber and leather wristbands are bad, bad, bad.

Here's a search thingy from Seiko's site that will let you find what you need:

That's awesome! Too bad my birthday was last week. Guess I'll have to put this on my Christmas wish list.

I've always been a fan of Nixon watches: http://www.nixonnow.com/womens-watches/

They're pretty neat, I own one and it's lasted years and years with no complaints.

Not sure how sporty these are, but some of them seem along that line.
They're loosely associated with skateboarding I think? They always sell them in the skateboard shop up here. Prices are varied from like $90 to $2,400..

How about an Accutron?

Bulova still makes a line of Accutron watches, and their other offerings look snazzy too.

Thanks for all the suggestions and please keep them coming!

We were at the mall the other day and my daughter liked to look of Tissot watches. Reasonably priced, too.
