how about + 1 point for each round before round 10 you break into the castle. As I see it, it is only a potential 1 or 2 points due to the fact that by turn 7 your SOL if you haven't breached. and if you breach before that you pretty much win anyway.
This way you are forcing more turns and losing those bonus points for breaching before turn 10. However the defender is more likely to have to use his bonus victory points to make sure you don't breach to early. So you may actually see a game use its full 10 turns for once.
Let me know what you think of this I may try it out in my next game to see if it balances it out a bit and makes for a bit longer invasion.
